Gild Hall, A Thompson Hotel

A taste of Aspen on Wall Street
VERIFIED LUXURY
In an area known for towering skyscrapers and stiffly suited business set, Gild Hall, A Thompson Hotel provides New York City denizens and visitors alike with a cozy retreat.

This Financial District hotel sports a men’s club aesthetic, from the cowhide throw rug and leather couch in the lobby to the white-washed brick and wood that outfit the walls of the space.

While its Gold Street location means hailing a taxi may take a bit of an extra effort, the 126-room hotel provides a quiet setting as the sun goes down that makes it worth it.

If the more secluded spot isn’t enough to create a relaxing stay, Gild Hall’s guest room amenities will do the trick — think oversized Frette bathrobes, C.O. Bigelow toiletries and Dean & DeLuca-stocked mini-bars.

Our Inspector's Highlights
• Designed by Jim Walrod, the boutique New York City hotel is designed to resemble an Aspen country house, warm and comforting with natural materials, like leather and bone, found throughout.

• This hotel is centrally located, if slightly off the beaten bath. This means that you avoid the noise and traffic from the main roads, while still residing within walking distance of some of New York City’s best attractions like including Battery Park, South Street Seaport and the National September 11 Memorial & Museum.

• Felice Restaurant & Wine Bar is the boutique hotel’s go to spot for authentic Tuscan fare such as pastas, meat and cheese boards, or grilled branzino, among other items.

• La Soffitta, the hotel’s second-floor wine bar, is a popular happy hour hangout for the Wall street power set with its men’s club décor: leather banquettes, a dartboard and case-lined walls housing wine bottles.
Things to Know
• This boutique hotel is kid friendly. Staffers are happy to cater to guests of all ages, be it by finding them activities to keep them entertained or assisting you in locating a babysitter.

• Getting around Manhattan is a cinch from the boutique hotel, with many of the city’s subway lines convening within blocks of its Gold Street location.

• La Soffitta is often used for after-work events by Financial District companies, so it can get crowded during happy hour, but Felice Ristorante & Wine Bar has an area just off the lobby downstairs that will suffice for a quieter and calmer libation experience.

• There is no spa or pool at Gild Hall, but there is also an absence of hustle and bustle found at the larger corporate hotels in the city.
The Rooms
• Guest rooms at Gild Hall are simple and comfortable, reflecting the sense of elegance that you’ll find throughout the public areas of the hotel.

• The bathrooms are on the small side, but make up for it with style. Brown and white marble floors, glass shelving for your belongings and Grohe silver fixtures give these compact spaces a sleek, clean look.

• Dark wood moldings, sliding doors to the closet and mini-bar areas and desks complement one another nicely, and a lighter wood, artistic desk chair with built-in leather cushions reminds you how thoughtfully these rooms were designed.

• Some units in the New York City hotel have plush window seats with black cushions and brightly colored pillows for an aesthetic pop, while the Thompson and Penthouse suites feature separate sitting areas and an extra half bath.
The Look
• The design style of Gild Hall is a unique combination of rustic luxury and modernity.

• The lobby of the New York City hotel features wood floors with a patch of leather beneath inviting couches and a glass coffee table, surrounded by white-washed brick and wood walls and enhanced by elegant lighting fixtures and a brown cowhide throw rug.

• The Forbes Travel Guide Recommended hotel's guest rooms include similarly gracious touches such as leather-tufted headboards behind the brown wood platform beds and matching wooden window dressings.

• The boutique hotel’s restaurant and bar, Felice and La Soffitta, fit in perfectly with this quiet stylishness by featuring wood tables, comfortable leather banquettes and a cozy, welcoming vibe.
