If you want to know who’s responsible for sending you into sugar shock from the chocolaty and fruity sweets at Daniel, it’s pastry chef Ghaya Oliveira. Named executive pastry chef of the Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star restaurant in July 2013, Oliveira has plenty of experience under her belt (though not all of it in a kitchen). The Tunisian started out as a stock trader in her native country and moved to the United States in 1998 where she started her culinary journey. She joined the Boulud family in 2001 at Café Boulud and worked her way up to pastry sous chef and then was named executive pastry chef when Daniel Boulud opened Boulud Sud in 2007. Oliveira’s accomplishments were acknowledged with a James Beard Foundation award nomination for Outstanding Pastry Chef in 2012. Indulge in her desserts at the Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star New York restaurant, which pair her developed tastes and traditional French pastry philosophy with playful presentation and interesting flavors.
