You may have booked a visit to The Spa at Mandarin Oriental, New York for the Thai yoga massage — we love the combo of stretching and yogi poses, too — but we suggest you arrive early to take total advantage of the locker room and heat areas. The locker rooms are prepared to store whatever tags along on your visit, so don’t worry if you come after a long morning of power shopping.
You’ll receive a tour of the locker room after you check in with the receptionist, and a spa attendant will provide you with a welcome grooming bag. Inside the sturdy cream-colored pouch embroidered with the spa’s logo in brown, you’ll find a toothbrush, a tube of Colgate toothpaste, spray deodorant, a razor and a small plastic brush. The two stone showers in the locker rooms are also fully stocked with ESPA shampoo, conditioner and body wash, and you’ll find products such as ESPA cleansing milk and moisturizing body lotion throughout the locker room to leave you feeling fresh and revived pre- and post-treatment.
You’ll find a robe waiting for you in your full-sized locker with a single shelf on the bottom. The lockers all come with programmable codes so you can leave your valuables there without any worry. Then head to the amethyst-crystal steam room for an aromatherapy session or treat yourself to some relaxation with a plunge in the hot vitality pool, where oxygenated water relaxes aching muscles and hydrotherapy body jets gently massage your torso. Don’t forget to bring a towel, though — you’ll also find them in the locker room in neatly stacked piles on a shelf.
And when you’re ready to head home, the locker rooms at the Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star New York spa have grooming areas with hairdryers and hair products so you’ll be set to leave looking as fresh on the outside as your body feels on the inside.
