Getting to The Inn at Little Washington, located in Northern Virginia, is relatively easy since the Culpeper Amtrak station is less than 30 minutes from the hotel. During those 30 minutes to the Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star inn, it’s harder to get any more picturesque than this part of Virginia. You can take most of the trains that run down the east coast to the Culpeper station.
If you’re thinking about taking a train from one of the Washington D.C. airports, think again. While it may seem like a grand idea at the time, you have to leave the airport to go to Union Station in the middle of downtown D.C. if you want to catch a train that goes directly to Culpeper. We suggest you stick with renting a car or a limo if you’re flying into the nation’s capital; it’s faster. In fact, a train ride from Union Station to Culpeper takes about an hour and a half; then you have another 30-minute car ride to The Inn at Little Washington.
Bottom line is that there simply aren’t a lot of trains that stop at the Culpeper Amtrak station. So while a train ride is beautifully old school, the best way to go is by car if you’re arriving at one of the two airports. But if you decide to take the tracks, be assured that there is a train station close enough to The Inn at Little Washington that the luxury hotel will arrange a car to pick you up. In reality, if you’re coming from, say, Boston or New York, you will most likely get off at Union Station in downtown D.C. It’s a larger station with many more trains in and out during the day to make things a lot easier for your trip to the hotel.
