Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa is located in Anaheim on the 500-acre Disneyland Resort property (home to the original Disneyland Theme Park, which opened in 1955). The hotel is sandwiched between the newer Disney California Adventure Park (DCA) and the shopping district called Downtown Disney. Hotel guests have direct access to DCA via a private entrance between Napa Rose and Mandara Spa (the theme park features attractions such as Cars Land and is a two-minute walk from neighboring Disneyland). In a park-view room, you can sit on the balcony and watch the nightly World of Color, which projects Disney characters onto a 19,000-square-foot veil of mist in a show of water, pyrotechnics and laser lights. Alas, you’ll need to be front and center at Paradise Pier to hear the accompanying music.
If you want to escape the resort grounds, the Orange County hotel just a five-minute drive along East Katella Avenue to the Honda Center (NHL and NBA games), Angel Stadium (baseball) and the City National Grove (concerts), or 30 minutes to the quaint shops and beaches of Balboa Island in Newport Beach.
