The Breakers Palm Beach

Palm Beach's storied luxury resort
VERIFIED LUXURY
A celebrity favorite since 1896, and in its current building since 1926, The Breakers Palm Beach boasts a rich history rivaled only by its own penchant for constant reinvention. The result is a thoroughly modern and dynamic beachfront destination that happens to welcome you with a 200-foot, loggia-flanked, Murano-glass-dripping, vaulted main lobby based on a Renaissance castle in Genoa.

It’s a testament to the service and amenities of The Breakers that such grand Italianate architecture — on 140 acres, no less — feels warm and welcoming. The property’s 534 guest rooms feature ocean-inspired décor and residential luxuries, making your room feel like your home away from home. Book a stay at the 21-room Flagler Club, a boutique hotel nestled atop the resort, and add such perks as a personal concierge, continental breakfast, light lunch fare, pre-dinner hors d’oeuvres and bar service, as well as after-dinner sweets — all enjoyed in the club’s private lounge and terrace, which overlooks the palm-lined Main Drive.

Our Inspector's Highlights
  • The Breakers has enough activities to keep you busy for weeks, beginning with a five-acre beachfront with fully equipped bungalows and four oceanfront pools.
  • Play a round on Florida's oldest golf course. The Ocean Course was renovated in 2018 by Rees Jones, who improved playability without sacrificing the cherished character of these legendary greens.
  • The Spa at The Breakers is top-notch. The Five-Star 20,000-square-foot haven offers an array of services.
  • Ten restaurants will satisfy every culinary craving, from freshly caught seafood to classic Palm Beach cocktail-party fare with flair. We suggest checking out the retro-chic lounge HMF and Flagler Steakhouse, both of which were designed by hospitality visionaries at Tihany Design.
  • Pick your activity of choice: the hotel offers 10 Har-Tru tennis courts; golf and tennis academies; and watersports that include kayaking, paddle boarding and Hobie Cat rides.
Things to Know
  • The resort sits on 140 acres, divided into different campuses spanning the property’s extensive acreage.
  • The golf and tennis clubhouse, along with Flagler Steakhouse, is just across South County Road. Echo, a sleek Asian-fusion hot spot, is a three-minute drive away on Sunrise Avenue. Henry’s Palm Beach, the newest addition to the dining collection, is a short stroll away at Via Flagler. And The Breakers Rees Jones Course is 10 miles away across the Intracoastal Waterway in West Palm Beach.
  • Family activities include a nine-hole mini golf course, bicycles for touring historic Palm Beach and more.
  • The aptly named Italian Restaurant, located next to the Family Entertainment Center, is a casual option for families (though no one will blame you if you drop the kids at the center, least of all the children — they’ll be too busy admiring the arcade and video game lounge with Xbox and PlayStation).
  • There’s a collection of shops that includes Polo Ralph Lauren and Guerlain, as well as the unique Mix and Match at The Breakers for jewelry and shoes.
The Rooms
  • Rooms feature modern décor with sophisticated bronze detailing and bold, sunny accent colors inspired by the location.
  • Other décor elements include custom furnishings that reflect the understated elegance of Palm Beach and beautiful accent wall coverings.
  • You’ll have a Sony radio/alarm clock with an iPod dock/charger and, in the bathroom, a small television built into the mirror. Each accommodation has one or two flat-screen televisions, as well as useful items like a serving tray, two luggage racks, an ironing board, an iron, a safe and a recycling bag.
The Restaurants
  • At HMF, a diverse menu focuses on shared plates (with extra-long utensils to prove it). The menu is divided into sections such as “hearth and robata” (order the Margherita pizzette) and “food truck” (items include Wagyu beef sliders and SoCal fish tacos).
  • Flagler Steakhouse sports a bold design and sits across the street from the beachfront hotel’s main building at the Ocean Clubhouse, which overlooks the Ocean Course. The vibe here is classic steakhouse with a modern twist.
  • For fresh catches, creative cocktails and Atlantic vistas, head to Seafood Bar at the end of The Breakers’ South Loggia. Featuring nautical details and an aquarium bar, this restaurant is open for lunch and dinner.
  • The luxury hotel has two beachfront, poolside eateries. The Beach Club Restaurant, which has a Mediterranean feel and is a bit dressier, serves breakfast and lunch. The more casual Ocean House has the perfect patio for outdoor dining.
  • Walk through HMF to find The Circle, The Breakers’ opulent, frescoed circular dining room that doles out hearty breakfasts daily and a lavish Sunday brunch. The fresh-squeezed orange juice and tropical fruits are among the best we’ve had, and specialties like the eggs Benedict and Belgian waffles are worth the indulgence.
  • Henry’s Palm Beach is an American-inspired bistro serving elevated comfort food at Via Flagler by The Breakers, a few blocks from the resort.
