The wine cellar at the The Fearrington House Restaurant is filled to the brim with more than 800 different labels, each specifically collected and chosen by award-winning sommelier Max Kast. There are a few very special bottles among the other fine wines, and if you’re visiting the Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star restaurant for a special occasion and want a bottle of wine to celebrate, you won’t be disappointed. The cellar houses five bottles of La Tache 1994, which sell for $1700 each; a rare bottle of 1948 Sauternes priced at $2,100, the cellar’s oldest bottle of wine; and a 1967 bottle of Chateau d’Yquem Sauternes blend, which sells for $2,100. We suggest you consult Kast to help you expertly pick a bottle — or call ahead to consult him before you arrive and he’ll hold a bottle for you.
