Whether you’d like to hold off on buying a bottle or wish to sample a few different types of vino, wines offered by the glass at The Fearrington House Restaurant are hand-selected by sommelier Max Kast. You’ll always find sparkling wines, reds and whites on the by-the-glass menu. Kast tries to introduce guests to wines they aren’t likely to see elsewhere, such as a South African wine that was a favorite of Napoleon and Jane Austen. Prices per glass are reasonable and run the gamut from $7 to $12. The menu leans toward sparkling and white wines over the summer, and then skews more toward reds in winter. In total, the Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star restaurant’s cellar stocks around 3,000 wines, with more than 800 unique labels from which to choose.
