Nature-inspired tranquility in North Carolina

10 Treatment Rooms

The Umstead Spa allows you to experience art, nature and wellness while incorporating tranquil elements of nature that reflect its surrounding landscape within a wooded 10-acre resort in suburban Raleigh, North Carolina.

The 16,000-square-foot space at The Umstead Hotel and Spa is made for luxe pampering with plush furnishings, calming neutral-toned décor with natural accents and a long list of top-notch spa services from which to choose. Treatment rooms are light-filled and come with balconies so you can really soak in the bucolic scene.

The Amenities

You have all-day access to the spa’s luxurious amenities, including relaxation lounges, locker rooms, an outdoor meditation courtyard, steam room, a eucalyptus sauna and therapeutic current pool. Calming botanical fragrances, soft music, plush robes and soothing teas enhance your experience. Large floor-to-ceiling windows lookout over the soaring pine trees and here you can feel both luxuriously pampered and inspired by the simple beauty of nature.

Opt for the health and wellness-inspired Restore Menu in Umstead’s signature restaurant, Herons. Parking is available both at The Umstead Spa entrance as well as complimentary valet parking at the hotel's front entrance.

The spa boutique carries some of the best and well-known beauty products in the world, all of which are featured on the treatment menu.

The Treatments

Throughout the year, the Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star spa develops new seasonal treatments designed to restore, revive and replenish. These are in addition to the lengthy list of services permanently on the menu, which ranges from basic to advanced massage techniques to facials and body treatments.

The Valmont Facial is one of the spa’s most popular treatments offered year-round. This Swiss-developed collagen mask is like a “biological facelift” that aims to recover the skin’s natural resilience, suppleness and radiance. The Cherry Blossom Ritual is another favorite and involves a warm, gentle exfoliation followed by a generous foot rub and a full-body massage with cherry blossom shea butter.

Walk in the Woods is the luxury spa’s four-hour signature experience and if you have the time, it should not be missed. Designed to give your mind a breath of fresh air, it includes a pedicure, manicure, facial, body scrub or Swedish massage, and a glass of champagne.

Gentlemen may enjoy the Dogwood experience, which includes a therapeutic massage and a men’s facial, which soothes away tension by using hot towels and incorporating a scalp massage. Manicures and pedicures are a treat, too, and can be had in the plush nail room.

Couples can book a double treatment room, which come with a large soaking tub that overlooks the wooded landscape. The Retreat service is a lovely romantic escape that includes a soak in the tub, dual customized massages and a complimentary glass of champagne.

The Fitness Studio

The Cary spa’s fitness studio offers 50-minute personal training sessions and complimentary yoga is taught on weekends for hotel guests (sometimes outdoors).

Those staying at the hotel can use the fitness center 24/7 — it includes an expansive cardio section and strength training equipment, as well as floor space for stretching and yoga. Bonus for resort guests: You can take advantage of the impressive spa amenities even if you don’t book a treatment. The resort also has miles of hiking trails begging to be explored and complimentary bikes you can take out for a spin.
