Nuna (Le Commandant Charcot)

French fine dining meets polar exploration
VERIFIED LUXURY
It’s rare that you can score a table at an Alain Ducasse restaurant without reservations, but walk-ins are more than welcome at Nuna. As the flagship dining room aboard Le Commandant Charcot, PONANT’s groundbreaking — or shall we say icebreaking — luxury polar exploration ship, Nuna was developed in collaboration with the storied chef to bring contemporary French cuisine to the ends of the Earth.

In addition to an à la carte menu, Nuna also spotlights a regularly updated plant-forward, globally inspired tasting menu that nods to the ship’s eco-friendly ethos without veering into gimmickry.

Dishes lean refined and restrained, with an emphasis on seasonality, subtle spice and classic French technique. The atmosphere mirrors the cuisine: calm, contemporary and quietly confident, with soft lighting and minimalist design that feels like an understated showcase of French savoir-faire.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • Nuna brings Ducasse’s contemporary French cuisine to the polar extremes, where vast rolling seas and indomitable snowfields add visual drama to the experience.
  • A must for admirers of the acclaimed chef, the restaurant pairs his haute creations with fine French wines, heirloom-worthy tableware and timeless furnishings in a celebration of craftsmanship.
  • Named after the Inuit word for “earth,” Nuna reflects the spirit of Le Commandant Charcot’s polar voyages.
  • Ducasse’s menus change constantly, ensuring your taste buds never get bored once you’re sailing. Expect dishes such as lobster with beets and hibiscus, or veal tartare with haricot verts.
  • If it weren’t for the large windows, you might forget you’re on a cruise at all. White tablecloths, white-glove service and artfully presented plates (yes, chefs use tweezers here) replicate Ducasse’s exquisite French fine-dining experiences on terra firma with precision.

Things to Know

  • Whether you order à la carte or enjoy the tasting menu, Ducasse’s dishes at Nuna are included with your sailing, so you can enjoy world-class cuisine (with a side of Arctic or Antarctic views) as often as you like.
  • Offering breakfast, lunch and dinner, the restaurant has been designed to accommodate all passengers in a single sitting, ensuring you don’t need to worry about reservations.
  • While Nuna’s dining room feels refined, the expeditionary nature of the ship means that the dress code is a little less formal. Aim for somewhere between smart casual and business formal — think polos and khakis for men, and skirts, trousers, dresses and blouses for women.
