Viceroy Riviera Maya is located along the turquoise waters of the Caribbean right near Playa del Carmen, Mexico. It’s set on the coast of Riviera Maya, an upscale beach resort area in the Yucatan Peninsula. The hotel is about 35 minutes from Cancun International Airport, so it’s a convenient spot to get to but far enough away from the spring breakers who set up camp in Cancun. You’ll find mostly couples at the adults-only resort.
If the white sand and scorching sun aren’t enough to keep you busy, the luxury hotel offers a good central base for day trips. About 15 minutes from Viceroy — a straight shot if you walk southwest along the beach — there’s a dock where you can catch a 45-minute ferry ride to Cozumel to spend the day snorkeling or diving in the clear water along the island's coral reef. To explore the famed local cenotes (natural sinkhole pools), the caves at Dos Ojos are 35 minutes away. Those to prefer to take a break from the water can check out Mayan ruins at Tulum (an hour) and Cobá (an hour and a half).
