Our Inspector's Highlights
  • The former home of an 1880s equestrian estate, Estancia La Jolla Hotel & Spa pays homage to its historic past through its design.
  • Bricks painstakingly salvaged from the vintage structures were used in the new construction to add authentic flair.
  • The luxury hotel’s signature restaurant, Mustangs & Burros, was crafted to resemble the estate’s tack room while the business center was modeled after the caretaker’s cottage.
  • Tucked along La Jolla’s shade-dappled North Torrey Pines Road, Estancia La Jolla Hotel & Spa enjoys an ultra-private locale free from the city’s hustle and bustle.
  • Estancia La Jolla Hotel & Spa boasts a breathtaking collection of gardens nestled throughout the nearly 10-acre property, with flower-lined pathways to the traditional rose gardens and Mediterranean-style oases.
Things to Know
  • Estancia La Jolla Hotel & Spa blends serenely with the scenery; if not for the property’s minimal signage, you may never notice that it’s there at all. Despite its seclusion, however, the luxury resort offers close proximity to some of the area’s premier attractions.
  • Nearby activities include hiking and biking at Torrey Pines State Reserve, teeing off at Torrey Pines Golf Course or embarking on an airborne adventure (paragliding or hang gliding) at the Torrey Pines Gliderport.
  • For those who prefer shopping over sports, the village of La Jolla and its bevy of high-end boutiques and galleries are just a short drive away.
  • Beach lovers are also in luck: La Jolla’s sun-kissed coves and golden strands of sand are all within easy reach.

  • Select from Estate, Veranda or Deluxe guest rooms, each equipped with desks that double as dining tables and a choice of a single California king or pair of queen beds.
  • For even grander accommodations, upgrade to one of Estancia’s 10 Estate Suites and enjoy 640 square feet of residential-like space complete with separate bedroom and sitting areas.
  • Enhanced amenities include a complimentary bottle of Trinitas Cellars Petite Syrah, organic snacks and a cooler stocked with sodas, sparkling water and coconut water.

The Restaurants
  • Mustangs & Burros, the hotel’s signature rancho-style restaurant, serves Southwest-inspired cuisine created with seasonal, locally sourced ingredients (try the cumin-crusted skirt steak with fingerlings, cheese, jalapeño and guanciale).
  • The intimate, low-lit dining room is ideal for romantic dinners while the expansive outdoor patio—complete with roaring fireplace—is a fantastic place to sip happy-hour cocktails in a fun and lively setting.
  • For a wholesome breakfast or lunch, head to Adobe El Restaurante to partake in American fare with Southern California influences. In the morning, order chilaquiles (scrambled eggs, bell peppers, onions, tomato-chile negro sauce, crispy tortillas, cilantro sour cream and queso fresco).
  • The weekend brunch buffet is especially popular and best enjoyed on the eatery’s alfresco veranda. Try the salmon tabouli with grilled asparagus, warm feta tomato salad and parsley sauce.
  • Open in the evenings, the adjacent Trinitas Cellars Wine Bar offers its namesake wines by glass or by flight. Food pairings are also available along with artisan cocktails and local craft drafts.
