You don’t have to go far to find a golf course at The Cloister Golf, since the Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star hotel offers some of the best greens anywhere at its nearby sister property, The Lodge at Sea Island Golf Club. Enthusiasts around the world are likely familiar with The Sea Island Golf Club, which offers not one but three championship courses and was rated tops in the United States among Golf Digest Index’s “World’s Best 50 Golf Hotels.”
Tom Fazio updated the Seaside Course, located on the southern tip of St. Simons Island, in 1999. As the most famous of the courses, Seaside has hosted plenty of USGA events and is also home to the PGA Tour’s McGladrey Classic. You’ll have to play your best to conquer the Plantation Course, which winds through and around golden marshland and a live oak forest — the expansive fairways here offer gorgeous views of the Atlantic Ocean and natural beauty of Sea Island. The Retreat Course, designed in part by Davis Love III and his brother Mark, is equally as challenging and picturesque.
In addition to these three fabulous courses, the Sea Island Golf Learning Center is a state-of-the-art facility where you can practice your putting, short game and drives, take lessons from professionals and have your clubs tested and fitted.
Complimentary shuttles to the courses are available if you’re planning to hit the links during your stay at The Cloister.
