High glamour along the Bund

191 Rooms / 44 Suites

The Peninsula Shanghai is one of the city’s most historic hotels, with roots dating back to 1850. The gorgeous Art Deco lobby outfitted in celadon green walls and black marble floors transports you back to Shanghai’s golden age. But the cerulean-and-white guest rooms are undeniably modern: With the push of a button, the tub is filled, drapes fly open and Internet radio streams through the speakers. While the high-tech rooms are a standout, so are the Five-Star hotel’s restaurants: Sleek Sir Elly’s is one of the best fine-dining spots in the city, and the traditional Yi Long Court serves excellent Cantonese fare. Though you can’t go to the hotel without stopping in The Peninsula Spa by ESPA. It’s Shanghai’s only Five-Star spa, and its carved wood furniture and amenities like heated treatment floors are as luxurious as that golden era.
