The Ritz-Carlton Shanghai, Pudong does not offer any planned activities, but the concierge will be happy to help you arrange for show tickets (the Shanghai Acrobats at the Shanghai Centre Theatre are always a crowd-pleaser), restaurant reservations or a tour of the city. There are a number of tour companies working in Shanghai, some run by locals and many by foreigners. If you prefer a private tour guide, ask the Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star hotel’s concierge to help you track one down and work out an itinerary. There are several tour companies that offer interesting off-the-beaten-path excursions, like a gangster tour of Shanghai where you can opt to shoot a gun (Newman Tours), a walk among Shanghai’s remaining old lanes (Shanghai Flaneur) or a jaunt to the Muslim Market, where you can snack on naan and lamb (UnTour). There is plenty to see and do; so conduct your research, and you won’t waste a minute of your trip to Shanghai.
