Waldorf Astoria Shanghai on the Bund has a fleet of house cars that are fit for royalty (the crown princes of Luxembourg and Belgium have stayed at the Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star hotel, after all). The fleet is full of Mercedes Benz S350 and S600 models and a Mercedes van, which is available for large groups. There are eights cars in total, and because the service is a popular one you’ll have to give the hotel some notice if you want to use it (one day’s notice for the sedans and more advanced notice if you’re in a larger group and will need more than one vehicle). Since the Waldorf works with a vehicle service provider, you won’t need to worry about not having a car, but advance arrangements are always best. If you prefer to get around in cabs, the hotel staff can easily hail one for you — cabs in Shanghai are cheap and plentiful. The Metro, too, is easy to navigate and there’s a station about 15 minutes from the hotel.
