Service at Sir Elly’s Restaurant at The Peninsula Shanghai is polished and most definitely attentive. Our table was swarmed by what initially seemed like a rotating cast of servers, which has pluses and minuses; while you’ll never want for anything, you will have to regularly answer inquiries from multiple staff members about how you like your food and if you have everything you need. It’s best to follow their lead and give your meal similar focus; the cuisine is too precisely prepared and inventive not to. Enjoyable flourishes such as servers pouring your soup at the table and the elaborate tea presentation easily show off the skills the staff has acquired, and all of the staff comes across as professional and cheerful.
