Sir Elly’s Restaurant is The Peninsula Shanghai’s signature international fine dining restaurant, and it chose sommelier Yang Lu to head up the classic wine program. He is considered one of the top young Shanghainese sommeliers in the city, and holds a vintner’s degree from Niagara College in Canada and a Wine and Spirit Education Trust certification and is the first internationally credited sommelier from Mainland China. He has also earned prestige at various sommelier contests, including the China National Sommelier Contest held in Shanghai last year (he won the competition) and the Greater China Sommelier Contest (he placed second). While Lu brings a touch of youth and excitement to the wine selections at Sir Elly’s, he also works graciously with diners to help them choose varieties best suited to their palates and their meals.
