VERIFIED LUXURY
When you step into The Ritz-Carlton Spa Shanghai, Pudong, it looks more luxe spaceship than spa, with futuristic white geometric cutouts and bold red furniture in the reception area.

Our Inspector's Highlights
  • Enter the hotel spa’s vibrant waiting area and you’ll immediately notice the bold design that breaks away from the typical spa aesthetic.
  • One feature that’s out of this world is the gorgeous Pudong cityscape view from every room in the 55th-floor spa.
  • Fresh-brewed tea is served for spa-goers as a pre-treatment refreshment; one could say the tea session is the first stage of winding down.
  • The crystal steam room and dry rock sauna are perfect for sweating out impurities. Follow up the thermal delights with a cool down session in the ice fountain.
  • The immaculate robes are so comfortable that you’ll be tempted to make some room in your suitcase.
Things to Know
  • If you’re staying at the hotel, you’re invited to get comfortable a little sooner and come down in the robe and slippers provided in every room.
  • In addition to robes, slippers and towels, you’ll also find sandals with traction in the locker room — so you can skip slipping and sliding around the pool area.
  • The spa invites you to arrive 60 minutes before your treatment to take advantage of the locker rooms’ sauna, steam room and ice fountain.
  • There are no male therapists at this Shanghai spa, but you’ll have your pick of a handful of female technicians.
  • Spa guests must be age 16 or older. Hotel guests with small children can still enjoy your spa treatment — take advantage of the Ritz-Carlton’s free babysitting service.
The Treatments
  • Jade Qi Yun is one of the luxury spa’s most recommended treatments. It includes a deep-cleansing back exfoliation and aromatic oil massage along with a facial that uses jade rollers to increase circulation. It all ends with a heavenly scalp massage.
  • Ideal for flaky, dry skin, the Moisture Boosting facial uses gentle cleansing, exfoliation and a moisturizing mask.
  • For those with limited time, the ESPA shoulder, neck and scalp massage is always a fitting service. This quick 30-minute massage puts you on the fast track to relaxation after a long flight and helps to ease headaches and neck pain.
  • The salt and oil scrub banishes dry skin thanks to a combination of sea salts and essential oils used to scrub you from top to toe.
  • Found on the men’s menu, the Muscle Reviver treatment pampers with a relaxing back, face and scalp massage ideal for jet-lagged travelers.
The Facilities
  • Treatment rooms are white all over — tub, tables, floor, towels — but feel sleek and modern rather than clinical.
  • The locker rooms and relaxation lounges fit in with the Five-Star spa’s modern design.
  • Gleaming lockers and a blond wood and white color scheme make the locker rooms feel fresh.
  • In the light-filled relaxation lounge, you can munch on mini biscotti or fruit, sip bottled water and sink into supple, white easy chairs.
