Yes. While you could theoretically spend your entire stay within the gates of a Sonoma resort, at some point you’ll want to get out and explore. While it’s easy to navigate around Napa Valley, as there are only two main roads — Highway 29 and the Silverado trail — Sonoma ranges across a much wider area. A car is essential for scenic drives along the Russian River, through the redwoods, and along Highway 1 that hugs the coast. If your plans include long wine pairing lunches and stopping at several wineries, it would be prudent to hire a driver or join a tour and leave the driving to a professional.
