Some of Sonoma’s best commercial wineries are also the best equipped to host large numbers of visitors and deliver an engaging experience of their wines and large production facilities. Here are my top selections:
Buena Vista. The oldest winery commercial winery in California, Buena Vista was founded in 1857 by Agoston Haraszthy. A visit to Buena Vista is must for lovers of history and wine. Be on the look out for the Count of Buena Vista, who still roams the grounds and brings the winery to life.
Ferrari-Carano. You may feel the need to check your map and make sure you are still in California and not Italy when you arrive at Ferrari-Carano. The impressive Italianate Villa Fiore is the grand centerpiece of the 70-acre Dry Creek Valley estate vineyard. The grounds feature beautiful manicured gardens, and the barrel cellar is a masterpiece as well.
