Twin Farms

Vermont's rustic, romantic retreat
VERIFIED LUXURY
Tucked away in the quiet town of Barnard, spread across 300 acres of Southern Vermont farmland and forest, lies Twin Farms, an intimate all-inclusive resort comprised of 20 rooms and cottages, each carefully decorated in a unique and individual style, be it a rustic-chic retreat with a fishing motif like Perch Cottage or a sumptuous Moroccan hideaway with painted ceilings and ornate tilework like Meadow Cottage.

The secluded setting is perfect for couples seeking a romantic hideaway, as well as its outdoor activities, which include hiking, biking, canoeing, fly fishing and cross-country skiing.

The hotel will outfit you with anything you need to enjoy the great outdoors, from a picnic basket filled an afternoon snack while sunning yourself at Copper Pond or fanny packs for a stroll through the rolling meadows.

Our Inspector's Highlights
  • When most of us city folk say we need a getaway, a location as quaint as Twin Farms comes to mind. If you’re looking for fresh mountain air, beautiful scenery and that get-away-from-it-all feeling, this cozy hotel should be on your hotel bucket list.
  • You’ll love the sophisticated and often whimsical art on display throughout the hotel. Gathered by the owner and founder of the New England hotel, Thurston Twigg-Smith, the collection is the fruit of his travels around the globe.
  • The friendly and unobtrusive staff make sure that the services offered are personalized down to each individual’s needs. Even the set menus at breakfast, lunch and dinner are tailored to the tastes and dietary preferences of each guest.
  • This luxury Vermont hotel is often referred to as “summer camp for adults.” Picture days swimming in the pond and nights around the bonfire. It’s also a cozy getaway during the winter months.
  • The property has its own ski slope with six groomed trails as well as a rink for ice skating.
Things to Know
  • Autumn is peak season at the luxury hotel, so you will want to book a room well in advance to witness the fall foliage in this picture-perfect setting.
  • For the most part, children under the age of 18 are not permitted in the quaint hotel. However, this policy is null and void during family weeks, extremely popular events where kids enjoy activities, from swimming in the pond and star gazing parties in the summer months to sleigh rides, ice skating, puzzle challenges and family movie nights in the Pub during winter.
  • The extravagant hotel closes from around mid-March to late April or early May for its annual spring cleaning, so try to avoid planning a springtime visit.
  • There are a few options for a round of golf close to Twin Farms. The hotel has preferential arrangements with the exclusive Quechee Club, approximately 30 minutes from the luxury Vermont hotel.
The Rooms
  • Each room and public space in the luxury Vermont hotel has a name describing its most important characteristics. For example, the Treehouse cottage showcases elaborate Adirondack white birch twig work, while the Meadow overlooks a meadow with a jaw-dropping Moroccan theme, including a sunken bedroom area, terracotta tiling with rich jewel-toned accents and an amazing tented fabric ceiling.
  • Each guest room at the luxury Vermont hotel is furnished with books about architecture, Vermont and the love of travel. There’s a Bose stereo and TV with satellite channels as well.
  • You will find a jaw-dropping view in every room at Twin Farms.
  • The Lodge is the only ski-in/ski-out accommodation at the luxury Vermont hotel, making it a perfect choice if you are planning a family trip or getaway with friends during ski season.
The Look
  • You can’t help but notice the sense of whimsy in the details found at Twin Farms. For instance, we loved pondering the wooden sculpture titled “Big Arm,” a muscular forearm grasping a hammer that has been curiously positioned over the restroom stall in the Pub.
  • A secluded setting deep in the Green Mountains makes Twin Farms feel rustic, but the luxury Vermont hotel's architects and designers also helped by carefully selected high-quality wood, stone and tiles to complement the natural surroundings when designing the property and its cottages.
  • Twin Farms is bucolic. In addition to that magical moment of your first glimpse of untouched snow in the winter, Twin Farms offers rolling meadows dotted with perennial flowers, a quaint covered bridge crossing over a lily pond with turtles and surrounded by lush ferns during the warmer months.
