The St. Regis Athletic Club & Spa

A holistic wellness retreat in Wan Chai
VERIFIED LUXURY

A serene urban retreat on the seventh floor of The St. Regis Hong Kong, The St. Regis Athletic Club & Spa feels soothing and sophisticated with gray marble and soft lighting all around. You can thank Hong Kong-based design wunderkind André Fu for the serene atmosphere, which weaves together a sense of understated, contemporary luxury with subtle local accents.

This is about as close as it gets to having an entire spa all to yourself. With one elegant treatment room (there’s a second planned for 2020), the St. Regis spa ensures undivided attention and highly personalized service. The treatments are equally exclusive, beginning with one-on-one consultations followed by tailor-made experiences and bespoke adjustments to signature services.

But the spa is just one part of the package. The entire floor is dedicated to wellness: on one side, a spacious, state-of-the-art gym boasts the latest Technogym equipment, personal trainers and biometric assessments with sweeping views of the city. On the other, an outdoor pool sits under the sun with a lush green wall, shaded cabanas, an alfresco bar and excellent views of Hong Kong’s domino-dense skyscrapers.

Our Inspector's Highlights
  • The intimate Hong Kong spa ensures maximum privacy and personal attention throughout the experience.
  • Fu’s thoughtful design makes the entire space feels very Hong Kong: sleek and contemporary, with a mix of traditional and modern references.
  • Therapists use a hand-picked selection of the world’s top skincare brands, including 001 Skincare London, created by facialist to the stars and beauty guru Ada Ooi, and 3LAB, a high-tech global beauty company known for its early adoption of stem cell technology.
  • An airy, light-filled gym is kitted out with the latest in Technogym equipment, as well as a 3D body scanner to detect body fat and help you achieve your fitness goals.
  • Within the changing rooms, find heat and water relaxation facilities such as a steam room and vitality pool, which you are welcome to use before or after your visit to the spa, pool or gym.

Things to Know

  • Even if you’re staying at the hotel, we’d recommend booking your treatment in advance, given the boutique nature of the spa. Even better, consult the fitness and spa concierge when making your appointment for personalized suggestions.
  • Arrive at least 20 minutes before your treatment — not only to relax and unwind in the sauna, but also to ensure your therapist has ample time for a personal consultation.
  • The minimum treatment time is 60 minutes, an excellent excuse to carve out some “me time.”
  • There’s a range of specially designed treatments for pregnant women in their second and third trimesters, which is a nice touch for mothers-to-be with achy backs and feet.
  • The luxury spa is open until 10 p.m. daily, which means you can sneak in a little pampering session before bed and count on an extra restful night's sleep.
  • The gym is open 24 hours, while the pool closes at 10 p.m. and reopens at 6 a.m. for the early-bird lap swimmers.

The Treatments

  • Try one of 001 Skincare London’s specially designed facials, such as the bespoke Signature Flow Performance Facial. After a personal consultation, your therapist will help you choose a 001 aromatic oil before using gua sha (a traditional Chinese medicinal practice of stroking skin with jade massage tools) techniques along your meridian points and lymph nodes to rid your body of toxins and excess fluids and boost your energy.
  • On the opposite side of the spectrum, the Cryo-Flash Facial harnesses the power of sub-zero temperatures and 001 Skincare London products to increase microcirculation and stimulate cell renewal.
  • Of course, classics like reflexology and aromatherapy massages are also on the menu, as are regal treatments like the Queen’s Exfoliating Ritual, which includes dry brushing to clear away dead skin followed by a soothing oil massage.
  • Need to really loosen up? After a long flight or big workout, try the Bamboo Energiser Massage, which involves bamboo stalks and deep-tissue techniques.
  • Any facial, body and massage service can be upgraded with enhancements — a range of carefully crafted extras like a Hydro Eye Treatment with silicone gel masks; a Hot Stone Melter, which utilizes hot stones to encourage blood flow; and a Back Reviver to leave your back smooth, soft and hydrated.

The Facilities

  • Across the entire wellness floor, Fu’s design concept brings the facility together with shades of gray, lacquer accents and lots of natural light.
  • The treatment room feels particularly soothing with warm, organic hues (cream, beige and bronze) alongside a wood-paneled wall and shutters inspired by Hong Kong’s shophouses.
  • The use of the Hong Kong spa — regardless of whether you’re a hotel guest — grants access to the outdoor pool, which features a bar serving both great cocktails, mocktails and healthy smoothies.
  • Before you head off, it’s worth checking out The St. Regis Spa Boutique, where you’ll find an array of 001 Skincare London and 3Lab products, as well as luxurious souvenirs like swimsuits, fluffy robes and bath salts.
