Muluk Spa at Hotel Xcaret Mexico

Mayan-inspired treatments with cenote views
VERIFIED LUXURY
Muluk Spa calms the senses as soon as you enter. It sits on the edge of the turquoise cenote river that winds its way through the tropical greenery, beaches and tiny islands that make up Hotel Xcaret Mexico. Rest your eyes on the river while listening to the pleasing sounds of water echoing off the spa’s natural stone walls and columns.

This luxurious spa will send you into a state of bliss. Mayan history, traditions and products feature prominently in Muluk's signature treatments and rituals.

While ancient therapies are a highlight, you won’t miss out on 21st-century comforts here. With low-lit cabins carved into the rock, mud baths and weightless flotariums, the spa’s serene ambiance just might convince you to unplug awhile longer.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • Water dominates at Muluk Spa. Lounge by the cenote next to fountains and bubbling whirlpools, swim in the infinity pool, dip into a bath or partake in the hydrotherapy circuit.
  • As with the décor and design of Hotel Xcaret, the spa also ensures that you get a strong sense of place and heritage. Mexican and Mayan ingredients (cinnamon, honey, cacao, clay and tree resin) and traditions feature prominently in treatments.
  • If you’re looking for something more spiritual, opt for the Temazcal experience. Guided by a shaman, this ritual takes place in a traditional sweat lodge in the Yucatan jungle, during which you’ll expel toxins and perhaps reach a state of transcendence with meditation.
  • You’ll feel at one with nature at this unique facility. Carved into the surrounding rock face, the 21 treatment rooms overlook the impossibly blue river.
  • For the ultimate spa escape, book a room in Casa Agua. Some of the room categories in this adults-only building include massages — you’ll have just a short walk back to your room upstairs after your spa visit.

Things to Know
  • "Muluk" is a Mayan word associated with the astrological sign for water, an important element in Mayan tradition. Fittingly, Muluk Spa is housed in Hotel Xcaret’s Casa Agua.
  • Bathing suits are needed to participate in the hydrotherapy circuit, which includes a sauna, a steam room and several plunge pools with hot, warm and cool waters.
  • Muluk's Wellness Bar provides wholesome snacks, tisanes (herbal teas) and other drinks. Enhance your experience with a post-treatment lunch at Hotel Xcaret’s riverside Bio restaurant, with its vegetarian, vegan and organic menu.
  • The sustainability priorities of Hotel Xcaret's parent company, Grupo Xcaret, extend to Muluk Spa, which uses as many local, organic and natural products as possible.

The Treatments
  • For a full cultural immersion, opt for the Copal Purification body wrap. Copal tree resin was used by the Mayans for its tissue-repairing and pain-relieving properties and is also burned during Día de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) ceremonies around the country to this day.
  • Continue the Mayan tradition with a Ksakir Facial. Made with clay from the Yucatan Peninsula, this mud mask has been used to clean, heal and exfoliate skin for generations.
  • Ayurvedic treatments like abhyanga massage are available. The treatment aims to balance both hemispheres of the brain and stimulate the body’s marma vital energy points.

The Facilities
  • This unique Riviera Maya spa has several open-air relaxation areas sheltered from the sun and tropical rain by natural rock walls and ceilings. The infinity pool, hot tubs and lounge areas look out onto the cenote.
  • There are 21 treatment rooms, the majority of them for couples, including one with a natural stone tub next to the river.
  • Muluk Spa has two Epsom-salt saturated floatarium pods and two mud baths, all available for 25-minute treatments.
