A storied, ultra-luxe resort in St. Barts

34 Rooms

St. Barts' legendary Eden Rock was the first hotel on the famously swanky island. Perched on a rocky promontory over Baie de St. Jean, the boutique resort attracts an international in-crowd with its fabulous rooms and suites, the management’s careful cosseting of high-profile guests, and a sustained commitment to maintaining the gorgeous property’s appeal to A-List clientele. Guests will find themselves in the middle of St. Barts’ buzzy scene, where one can easily walk to some of the island’s best shopping, dining, nightlife and watersport activities. A coral reef just off the shore beckons snorkelers, and the gentle waves of the Caribbean are ideal for laid-back kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding.

The Rooms

Eden Rock’s 34 rooms, suites and villas are located up on the rock, within pretty gardens, and along the beach. Each is decorated uniquely, with furnishings ranging from traditionally elegant four-poster beds to sleek, contemporary sofas. Guest rooms are creatively accented with antiques, original fine art, and personal touches of whimsy. The result? The overall look is more like a posh island home than a luxury resort.

The varied range and style of rooms means you have plenty of options, from the charming 450-square-foot Garden Cottages to the super-luxurious, 16,000-square-foot private Villa Rockstar. The latter has a professional recording studio, a screening room, swimming pool and gym. The beachside Villa Nina has its own private art gallery, large stone terraces and an Italian kitchen. Legacy Suites may be a bit more attainable (although still a splurge) for most travelers, and are decorated to reflect the personalities of legendary guests like Greta Garbo (Hollywood glamour) and Howard Hughes (copper bathrooms, aeronautic memorabilia). These suites are located on the rock and have amazing 360-degree views over the blue sea. All guest rooms have the latest in technological playthings, custom-made European linens and Bulgari bath products.

The Dining

World famous chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten is behind the globally inspired menus at Eden Rock’s two restaurants, On The Rocks and Sand Bar. He brings some of his personal favorite dishes from his many restaurants to the dinner menu at On The Rocks. (Tip: Don’t skip sunset cocktails on the top of the Rock). Diners swoon for the Foie Gras Brulé with pineapple-meyer lemon jam, and the Lamb Saddle with smoked chili glaze and crunchy polenta. At the beachside Sand Bar, lunch and dinner is light Mediterranean-influenced fare — delicious wood-grilled pizzas (try the truffle one), great burgers, salads and unbelievable desserts. A lavish daily buffet breakfast is included in the room rate and available only to hotel guests.

The Activities

Most guests relax on the gorgeous beach basking in both the sun and the attention of the dedicated beach attendants. But there’s plenty else to do here, if you please. There are all manner of watersports, yachting, and fishing available; a selection of divine spa treatments are available in your room; yoga instructors and personal fitness trainers can lead you in a workout in the air-conditioned gym. There’s also the resort’s terrific boutique, Rockshop, and the rotating exhibitions to admire at the Eden Rock Art Gallery.
