Quill, the bar at The Jefferson, Washington, D.C., offers entertainment five nights per week via the nimble fingers, strong voice and humorous lyrics of pianist Peter Robinson. Robinson, a longtime D.C. fixture, played extended gigs on nearby Embassy Row and at the Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star hotel back in the 1980s long before its renovation and revival. Since September 2009, he has manned the bench in Quill's main dining room Tuesdays through Saturdays starting at 9 p.m. The pianist mixes instrumental favorites by Cole Porter and others with his own arrangements and songs, including lyric creations about the machinations of nearby Capitol Hill that will make visitors of all political leanings chuckle. Robinson’s piano music makes for a relaxed yet refined atmosphere that make sipping a cocktail at Quill inspire even more conversation — which is to say his playing is worth talking about.
