Walking through Auvergne, France’s leafy Saint-Jean Park, you’ll spy the iconic turrets of Château Saint-Jean Hôtel peeking above the treetops. This fully renovated chateau originally dates to the 12th century, when it was once a Templar commandery, the Commanderie de Saint-Jean d'Entre les Vignes. Today, it’s been carefully restored by owners Nicole and Jean-Claude Delion, whose love story started here — it’s where they first met and later married.
The 19 rooms and suites are outfitted in an elegant Renaissance style blended with modern charm, from the restored whitewashed stone to the floor-to-ceiling doors that lead out to balconies that overlook the park.
Do not miss the chance to dine at La Chapelle, which is helmed by renowned French chef Olivier Valade and located in what used to be the 12th-century chapel. Menu favorites include lobster with a Montluçon beer glaze and scallops served on Jerusalem artichoke and pear.
Also make time for the guests-only spa, a haven with a hammam, a sensory shower, a whirlpool and a heated indoor pool.
