Secret Bay

Concealed by Dominica’s lush landscape, the clifftop Secret Bay promises a secluded Caribbean retreat. The late Venezuelan architect Fruto Vivas, who was known for incorporating nature into his designs, created 27 standalone villas from sustainably sourced Guyanese hardwood and scattered them throughout the luxury hotel’s 40-plus acres of rainforest and coastal bluffs. Guests reach the treehouse-style accommodations — positioned 300 feet up the cliffside — via the region’s longest funicular.

They come with private plunge pools, outdoor rain showers cantilevered off the top floor, sweeping outdoor living areas, fully equipped kitchens, an iPhone and Kindle to use during the stay and a villa host who can arrange everything from a private in-room chef to a beach picnic.

Venture outside your villa for the three tucked-away beaches (one that’s only accessible via kayak), a multi-course dinner featuring local ingredients at Zing Zing restaurant, a casual bite and drink at Bwa Denn eatery and kombucha microbrewery, or the open-air treehouse spa.
