In Austria’s Stubai Valley, Spa Hotel Jagdhof traces its history to a café opened by Leo and Margot Pfurtscheller in 1956. The couple built the Hotel Jagdhof on the site in 1977, and the property remains family-owned and -operated.
Set among the Stubai Alps, the luxury hotel champions traditional Tyrolean details — including local wood, antiques and hand-carved furnishing s— in its 70 rooms and suites, some with private saunas and balconies overlooking the mountains.
The 32,300-square-foot jSPA includes more than 20 sauna, steam, bathing and relaxation experiences, along with treatment rooms and a 13,325-square-foot spa chalet. Dining is a standout. The acclaimed Hubertusstube elevates Alpine cuisine using freshly caught game, herbs from the surrounding meadows and other local ingredients, while the impressive wine cellar holds about 20,000 bottles. The Fondue Gondola offers a fun alternative. Parked on the scenic terrace, the cable car gondola was retrofitted with Tyrolean wood and décor for a cozy setting for up to five people to enjoy pots of melted cheese and chocolate.
The hotel sits close to the Stubai Glacier, a ski area and high alpine excursion destination, making it a prime place for activity. Hiking, rafting, mountain biking and skiing are all accessible.
