Noble Court

VERIFIED LUXURY
Located just below the lobby of Grand Hyatt Beijing, Noble Court is a traditional Cantonese restaurant that showcases live seafood, dim sum and a range of seasonal dishes that capture the delicate flavors of Chinese cuisine. The décor is inspired by a Chinese nobleman’s courtyard house and offers a tranquil setting for dining away from the bustle of Beijing. For group dining and entertaining (popular in China), Noble Court provides seven private dining rooms that can accommodate up to 20 guests.

Our Inspector's Highlights
• Service at Noble Court is polished — especially for Beijing — and professional. The staff has a reasonably good grasp of English and can guide you through the menu if you’re unfamiliar with Cantonese cooking or Chinese ingredients (fish maw and wolfberries, for example).

• You’ll find dishes for every palate; the adventurous eater can enjoy stir-fried live geoduck with lettuce stems, braised donkey meat with Shan-Xi wine and braised Liao Ning sea cucumber with housemade bean curd and seasonal vegetables. Those who seek more familiar flavors, meanwhile, can order honey-roasted barbecue pork, gong bao chicken (a spicy staple with peanuts, ginger, garlic and chiles) and steamed eggplant with minced garlic.

• An extensive dim sum menu  (think steamed rice rolls with shrimp and chives or pan-fried chicken dumplings with ginger and leek) is served during weekend brunches, so prepare to load up on steamed rice rolls, delicate dumplings and flaky pastries.
Things to Know
• Noble Court is located on the lower level of Grand Hyatt Beijing at 1 East Chang An Avenue. The Hyatt is one of the most centrally located hotels in the Chinese capital, just minutes from the bustling Wangfujing shopping street and the Forbidden City.

• The fine-dining restaurant is open for both lunch and dinner daily and come weekends features a special dim sum brunch.

• While Noble Court is a more upscale restaurant, you won’t have to worry about keeping up appearances — there’s no dress code and the overall atmosphere is refined yet relaxed.

• Note that the wine service is not as thorough as food service, so if you’re a true oenophile, it’s best to stick to your gut instinct.
The Food
• On the menu you’ll find something for everyone. There is braised abalone, honey-roasted barbecue pork, roasted duck with plum sauce, stir-fried prawns, barbecued pork belly in a clay pot, and exceptional selection of live seafood in assorted preparations.

• If you’re already well-versed in Cantonese cuisine, enjoy dishes like poached sea whelk with vegetables in supreme bouillon, stir-fried sliced donkey meat with ginger and leeks, double-boiled bird's nest with chrysanthemum, and braised fish maw in pumpkin sauce.

• An array of light items, including poached clam and vegetable with soya sauce; fresh lettuce stems with shallot and Sichuan pepper essence; and marinated San Huang chicken filet with spring onion and ginger sauce will appeal to those watching their waistline.

• Seasonal items are also showcased in dishes like braised imperial fish maw with housemade bean curd and seasonal vegetables, braised abalone with bean curd and seasonal produce, and beef brisket with chestnuts in brown sauce.

• For dessert, you won’t find overly sugary or rich temptations, but rather a mango cream soup, a seasonal fruit platter, chilled milk jelly with baked sliced almonds, chilled red dates jelly, and double-boiled snow fungus and pear in syrup.
The Look
• The overall ambiance is brightly lit yet tranquil, with soft classical Chinese music playing in the background.

• Decked out with marble columns and wood latticework, the circular-shaped Beijing restaurant provides a traditional setting.

• Tables are topped with white tablecloths, Narumi china and vases of orchids, so the setting is a fine spot to bring a date. The circular tables dotting the fine-dining restaurant can easily fit groups of six, so it’s also a good spot to catch up with family and friends.
