Fairmont Olympic Hotel

Downtown Seattle’s recently refreshed grande dame
VERIFIED LUXURY

Since 1924, Fairmont Olympic Hotel, Seattle’s opulent Italian Renaissance-style facade has stood sentinel over the city’s ever-evolving downtown district. Once a hub for Seattle society, the luxury hotel has played host to a century’s worth of celebrities and high-powered guests, including Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Bing Crosby, Joan Crawford, Dwight D. Eisenhower and John F. Kennedy.

The property has managed to maintain an air of elegance over its nearly 100-year history, though a recent multi-million-dollar renovation has helped to return the grande dame to her full 20th-century splendor. A newly restored lobby, bar and added speakeasy draw inspiration from the historic hotel’s heyday, transporting you back in time to an era of art deco elegance without sacrificing any modern creature comforts. Palatial but never pretentious, Fairmont Olympic Hotel, Seattle welcomes an international jet-set crowd but will always be one of Seattle’s favorite hometown gathering spots.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • Centrally located downtown, the Seattle hotel offers an elegant stay within arm’s reach of notable attractions like Pike Place Market, the Seattle Art Museum and the waterfront’s Great Wheel.
  • The newly refurbished Olympic Bar is a stylish spot for sipping on pre-dinner cocktails or afternoon tea sweetened with honey from the hotel’s own rooftop hive.
  • Stylish accommodations provide nods to the Seattle hotel’s history in the form of tufted headboards and wingback armchairs, infused with a sleek gray and turquoise color palette.
  • Debuting in 2022, Penelope & The Beauty Bar provides a prime spot for high-quality pampering within the luxury hotel. A menu of classic massages and body treatments can be found along with a selection of specialty services like micro-puncture, cupping and cryo-facials.
  • Matching the art deco design of the lobby, The George is a stylish brasserie-style space showcasing seasonal Pacific Northwest seafood, aged meats and produce. For a taste of history, head to Shuckers (one of the city’s oldest oyster bars) housed in a 1930s-era haberdashery.

The Look

  • Fairmont Olympic Hotel, Seattle’s newly refurbished lobby bar is a chic time capsule of Roaring ’20s nostalgia. Black-and-white marble floors, plush velvet settees, dark wood paneling and shiny brass accents offer a stylish reminder of the luxury hotel’s heyday.
  • Anchoring the hotel’s refreshed lobby, The Olympic Bar draws inspiration from the property’s original maritime theme. An ever-rotating wooden installation above the bar was designed to resemble an antique ship, a parallel made even more apparent with the use of burlap sails and rope in the kinetic design.
  • Take some time to stroll the mezzanine level, where an array of historic documents provided by the University of Washington highlight the Seattle hotel’s 100-year history. Among the artifacts are a 1925 expense report, daily room rate ledger and restaurant menu showing afternoon tea priced at 75 cents.
  • Throughout the refurbishment, designers repurposed as much of the building’s original material as possible. When hand-laid Italian marble was uncovered after the carpeting was removed from the grand staircase, they chose to repair and refinish the original material rather than install new flooring.
