The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island has two main bars, the Lobby Bar and the Bar at The Ocean Room, and each pours several wines by the glass for you to sip while you take in views of the Grand Lawn and the Atlantic Ocean from their large windows. The Lobby Bar offers a seasonal wine list of 10 to 15 rotating choices; the hotel's sommelier focuses on selections that complement the weather. However, at the Bar at The Ocean Room, the focus for the wine list is all about complementing the cuisine. Steaks and sushi are two of the most popular choices, and the list reflects that. Though you'll find all different types of wines there, and your bartender or server would be happy to make pairing recommendations for you.
The bars do flaunt some rare vino, such as bottles from Dunn and Shafer Hillside Select in Napa, Domaine de la Romanee Conti in Burgundy and select Bordeaux. The Ocean Room chefs emphasize fresh, local produce, and since wine production in South Carolina is limited, the sommelier mimics this mindset by finding unique, small-production wines from around the world. You'll definitely find an unusual pour at both bars.
