Ka'ana Resort

An oasis in the Belizean jungle
VERIFIED LUXURY

Tucked away in the Belizean rainforest lies an enchanting and sophisticated hideaway. Surrounded by lush gardens and shaded by a diverse canopy, Ka’ana Resort awaits.

This luxurious and intimate boutique hotel is a tropical paradise, and it comes as no surprise that Ka’ana means “heavenly place” in the ancient Mayan language.

Upon stepping foot on this property, you know you have arrived somewhere special. The quietness of the jungle, the manner in which the buildings blend in with their surroundings and the discreet pathways veiled by verdant greenery create an elusive form of serenity. While you are busy immersing yourself in the aesthetics, the staff will sweep you off your feet with warm, Belizean-style hospitality.

The convenient location serves as both an outpost for adventure travelers seeking to explore the region’s rich Mayan culture and nearby historic ruins, as well as an idyllic sanctuary for those who prefer some rest and relaxation.

Things to Know

  • Do not be fooled by the interior jungle location; this luxury boutique hotel is easily accessible. Right off the major highway, Ka’ana is only a two-hour drive from the capital (Belize City) or a swift 10-minute drive from the local San Ignacio Airstrip serviced by Tropic Air.
  • The hotel is just five miles from the Guatemalan border, which makes it well-situated for a day trip to the sought-after Tikal Mayan ruins complex. The journey to and from this world-renowned site will take the majority of the day, but the ease of the excursion makes it well worth it — just don't forget your passport.
  • Nights are rather quiet in the area, but Ka’ana has you covered. With a tantalizing menu at Le Ceiba Restaurant and an open-air bar equipped with a fire pit and some nostalgic board games, you will be more than happy passing the evenings comfortably here.
  • You’re sure to find fresh food at the hotel. A two-acre organic garden grows many vegetables, spices and herbs for the chefs, while bountiful trees provide fruit, including mango, orange, lime, soursop, apple and avocado. The grounds also contain a large chicken and sheep farm.

  • Ka'ana has a heli-pad, if you prefer to take a 30-minute helicopter flight from Belize’s Philip S.W. Goldson International Airport.

The Rooms

  • All of the 17 hacienda-style suites and villas are thoughtfully designed with high ceilings and ample room for lounging. Each accommodation is integrated into the surrounding jungle landscape, creating a natural source of privacy.
  • Rooms are uniquely decorated with a smart fusion of modern luxury and traditional charm. The use of natural materials reflects the surrounding environment, and locally produced textiles and amenities like organic soaps and hair products add some authenticity.
  • All accommodations include private outdoor spaces overlooking the colorful and well-manicured tropical gardens.
  • The resort’s two private villas are good for a family retreat or romantic getaway. Each is equipped with a private pool and in-suite dining facilities and sits in an isolated area of the property for extra exclusivity.

The Restaurants

  • Unwind with a pre-dinner cocktail at The Wallace bar. Relax by the fire pit with a Down the Hatch (jalapeño-infused tequila, lemon basil and fresh pineapple juice).
  • Before you settle in for dinner, let Wolfgang Brandl (Ka’ana’s general manager) take you into the resort’s exquisite wine cellar. The carefully curated collection consists of more than 1,000 bottles focused on New World small producers.
  • La Ceiba Restaurant serves an extensive array of gourmet Belizean cuisine with an international twist. Try plates like griga sere(a traditional dish of shrimp and fish cooked in coconut milk and served over rice) or slow-cooked pork rib barbacoa for a deliciously authentic experience.
  • From the local fare to the artisanal cocktail creations, Ka’ana’s focus on providing a satiating culinary experience starts from the ground up: most ingredients are sourced from the property’s onsite organic garden and farm.
