The St. Regis Jakarta

International luxury with an Indonesian touch
VERIFIED LUXURY

Elegantly perched in the center of Indonesia’s Golden Triangle business district, The St. Regis Jakarta is a chic addition to the capital’s hotel scene. Dwarfed by surrounding skyscrapers, the luxury retreat aims to impress with detail rather than stature, a move that invited some of the world’s top design studios to contribute stylish interpretations of Jakarta’s rich history.

A statuesque facade offers a regal first impression of the design delights that lie within the hotel’s walls. Details come courtesy of a superpowered team of designers, whose previous clientele includes star-studded properties like Morocco’s La Mamounia, The Peninsula Paris and Dubai’s Atlantis, The Royal. But that’s not to say local traditions have been forgotten at the property, which opened in 2022. Hand-dyed fabrics on the beds, Indonesian flavors in the property’s six dining and drinking venues and an extensive local art collection provide a rich sense of place befitting the luxury hotel brand.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • The St. Regis Jakarta takes care to incorporate Indonesian influences into its own storied traditions. Before the nightly champagne sabering ceremony, for example, the “Sound of Light” light show takes over the hotel’s lobby as its custom chandeliers dance in time to tunes by Indonesian composer Andi Rianto.
  • For an elevated taste of local cuisine, pull up a chair at Bel Étage. Dig into expertly prepared Indonesian classics like beef rendang(a spicy dry curry), mie goreng (stir-fried noodles) and a wide variety of spicy sambal. For fine dining, head to J.J.A., which serves international cuisine driven by excellent ingredients, like Miyazaki A4 rib eye with king oyster mushroom, lotus root and pink peppercorn jus.
  • Enjoy the classic St. Regis afternoon tea in The Drawing Room accompanied by the soothing tones of a live pianist daily. The serene and sophisticated ambiance is a welcome respite after a long day of sightseeing in the Indonesian capital.
  • The stunning pool area might just make you forget that you’re staying at a city-center Jakarta hotel. A winding pathway weaves its way through lush foliage to the surprisingly secluded pool, where Javanese-inspired artworks are paired with plush loungers and canopied daybeds.
  • Take a closer look at the mural lining the St. Regis Bar. Inspired by the history of jazz in Indonesia, the piece by local artist Eddy Susanto features Javanese wayang shadow puppet figures playing classic jazz instruments in a beautiful blend of traditions. While there, order the Batavia Mary (Batavia was Jakarta’s former name), the hotel’s spin on the blood mary with Balinese arak liquor, sour cuka and chile-laden sambal oeleksauce.

The Look

  • All 228 accommodations were imagined by internationally renowned design firm G.A Group, the same team behind the newly debuted Atlantis, The Royal. The sleek white spaces beautifully blend modern style sensibilities with traditional Indonesian themes.
  • Luxurious accommodations feature custom beds accented with bespoke batiks from Indonesian fashion designer Iwan Tirta for a local touch, while rich materials like Italian marble, pale woods and plush velvet furnishings invite an air of sophistication.
  • Serene outdoor spaces (like the enchanting swimming pool) from acclaimed landscape architect Bill Bensley channel Bali’s peaceful vibes, even in the heart of the capital’s bustling business district.
  • The St. Regis Jakarta seems to know the power of a first impression. The stunning porte cochere features brass sun motifs embedded in the roof while a show-stopping black and white marble entryway guides your gaze up to a projection installation in the ceiling, and a custom set of geometric chandeliers — commissioned by Czech glassmaker Lasvit — in the lobby instantly impresses.
