Auberge du Soleil
A sun-drenched Napa escape
VERIFIED LUXURY
Here are five things to know about us:
1. We verify luxury. Our highly trained inspectors visit every property we rate, evaluating based on up to 900 objective criteria. Our hotel stays span a minimum of two nights.
2. We pay our own way. No one can buy a rating; all ratings are earned through our objective inspection process.
3. Our global team of inspectors are anonymous at all times, so they have the same experience as a typical guest.
4. While we inspect both service and facility, our Star Rating system emphasizes service because your experience at a hotel, restaurant or spa goes beyond looks — how it makes you feel is what you will remember most.
5. We started in1958 as Mobil Travel Guide, and we created the original Five-Star rating system for hospitality.
Five-Star
These properties deliver an outstanding experience and consistently offer a highly customized level of service.
Four-Star
These are exceptional properties, offering high levels of service and quality of facility to match.
Recommended
These are excellent properties with consistently good service and facilities.

What started out as a Provence-style fine-dining restaurant in Northern California is now a full-fledged sanctuary for the senses.
Perched on a quiet, 33-acre hillside olive grove in Rutherford, the Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star Auberge du Soleil brings together the best of Napa with its luxurious and bright accommodations, acclaimed Four-Star restaurant and Four-Star seasonally inspired spa.
Beyond the wine tastings and world-class dining experiences are a wealth of ways to explore the Napa Valley. From zip-lining and hot-air ballooning, and for the less adventurous, a hike or leisurely stroll through wine country, there is something for everyone in this secluded sun-soaked hideaway.

Our Inspector's Highlights
- The boutique resort’s Mediterranean-inspired design and relaxed, contemporary style are meant to reflect the character of the Napa Valley.
- Spa du Soleil features nutrient-rich grape seed and locally grown herbs and flowers in their treatments, offering seasonally-inspired specials like rosemary renewal massages in spring, a luscious peaches and cream body mask in the summer, a harvest-inspired cleanse or body glaze in fall and a peppermint and eucalyptus body treatment in winter.
- Auberge du Soleil offers luxurious accommodations to suit every need, from 520 square foot rooms all the way up to private maisons with one or two-bedrooms at 1800 square feet.
- With its perfect Napa location, even the hotel’s house wine is worth a try—Rutherford Ranch produces the Chardonnay and Reserve Cabernet, and Schramsberg produces the house sparkling wine.
Things to Know
- The Auberge Pool and Cabanas, "La Plage," is the perfect locale for soaking up the California Sun and enjoying a lazy afternoon in wine country. La Plage offers a full bar and poolside dining.
- Looking for a unique gift or personal souvenir? Check out the resort’s private market, Shop Auberge for sweet treats from the pastry kitchen and custom-made bath and spa amenities from Spa du Soleil.
- The hotel is home to one of the most comprehensive collections of outdoor sculpture ever assembled for viewing and sale. The Auberge du Soleil Sculpture gallery is owned by ÆRENA Galleries & Gardens and is open to guests of Auberge du Soleil or by appointment.
- Treat yourself to a casual evening of wine tasting at the Auberge’s Bistro & Bar which offers a rotating menu of more than 40 local wines by the glass.
The Rooms
- Luxurious touches include Italian linens, plasma TVs, wet bars with stocked refrigerators (full-sized in suites), espresso machines, CD players with a choice of CDs, wine, daily fresh fruit and a personal welcome note.
- Every room at Auberge du Soleil is a room with a view; you’ll get your choice of garden, hillside or valley vistas.
- Even the most basic accommodations come complete with a private terrace, fireplace, and California king bed.
- The bathrooms are spacious and flooded with natural light, offering separate showers, double vanities and oversized soaking tubs with romantic resort touches such as bath oils and candles.
The Restaurants
- Unlike most hotel restaurants, the Auberge du Soleil restaurant was founded before the resort by French-born San Francisco restaurateur Claude Rouas in 1981. Diners liked it so much they demanded overnight accommodations — and received them four years later.
- The seasonal French-California menu features artisanal ingredients and products from local farms, spotlighted in dishes such as tomato risotto with wild shrimp, white corn soup with blue crab and roasted lamb with potato gnocchi.
- The six-course tasting menu comes with wines to match from the large, locally strong list of over 15,000 bottles hand selected by the hotel’s own Director of Wine.
- The dessert menu at Auberge du Soleil is surprisingly light, featuring artisanal cheeses and local fruit-inspired sweet bites.
- If you’re in the mood for a more casual experience, The Bistro & Bar offers lighter fare throughout the day in a cozy fireside atmosphere or outside on the wraparound deck.
