The Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star ARIA Resort & Casino serves as the host hotel for the Michael Jordan Celebrity Invitational, while the actual golf tournament takes place at the world-renowned Shadow Creek Golf Course. The tournament has been in partnership with ARIA in the past thanks to a three-year contract. But now that the contract has ended, I’m hoping a new contract is negotiated for another three or more years. This is because Las Vegas is the perfect place to play—whether you’re golfing, hitting the nightclubs or frolicking around in one of the Spa Suites at Four-Star The Spa & Salon at ARIA. During the star-studded MJCI this past April, everyone from Michael Jordan (of course!), Don Cheadle, Brody Jenner, Will Smith and more came out to play. The event isn't all about golf either — think VIP tent filled with lots of food such as salads and pasta, plus, mixed drinks and beer — it's a prime place for fun and celeb watching.
Each spring, Michael Jordan and a few dozen of his celebrity friends tee off in Las Vegas for the four-day Michael Jordan Celebrity Invitational golf tournament hosted by ARIA Resort & Casino. Play is at Shadow Creek golf course, and while the Tom Fazio–designed course is usually exclusive to guests of MGM Resorts International, this is your chance to see the greens up close; the tournament is open to the public and all ticketholders receive complimentary shuttle service between ARIA and Shadow Creek.
So who plays in the Michael Jordan Celebrity Invitational golf tournament? The guest list varies from year to year, though you’re guaranteed to spot stars both on the course and inside ARIA. During the 2013 event from April 4–7, scout out foursomes for athletes Michael Phelps and Wayne Gretzky and entertainers Jake Owen and Kevin Nealon. Michael Douglas, Mark Wahlberg, Samuel L. Jackson and Don Cheadle are just a small sampling of past players.
If Shadow Creek is an oasis in the Nevada desert, ARIA is the equivalent on the Las Vegas Strip — a gorgeous haven tucked inside CityCenter. But the Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star hotel also knows how to throw a party. Leave your golf clap at the course and feel free to go full volume at the Michael Jordan Celebrity Invitational gala; the 2012 event brought Ne-Yo to ARIA to perform a show. The best part of the four-day extravaganza is that it’s all for a good cause — to date, the charity golf tournament has raised more than $6 million for charities like the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
