Thanks to its Fifth Avenue-adjacent location, La Prairie at The Ritz-Carlton Spa has a number of upscale shops within walking distance. Right around the corner at 58th Street and Fifth Avenue, you’ll find New York’s famed Bergdorf Goodman, where you can gawk at the ornately decorated windows, treat yourself to a new handbag or grab a bite to eat at one of four restaurants nestled within the luxury department store. Just steps away at the intersection of 59th Street and Fifth Avenue is Apple’s subterranean New York flagship, which you’ll recognize by its 32-foot-tall glass cube entrance. And what would a trip to famed Fifth Avenue be without stopping in arguably the most lauded toy store in the world, FAO Schwarz, where you can indulge your kids (or your inner kid) by watching dancers glide atop the giant piano made famous by Tom Hanks in the movie Big, or by simply browsing aisles upon aisles of stuffed animals, dolls, Legos and Harry Potter paraphernalia. If you want to avoid the hustle and bustle of Fifth Avenue, walk west toward the less crowded Shops at Columbus Circle, one of only a handful of malls in Manhattan, to browse retailers such as Borders, J.Crew, Sephora and Williams Sonoma. There’s enough shopping nearby to wear you out — and possibly necessitate another trip to the Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star spa.
