Puerto Vallarta’s adults-only boutique hotel
Puerto Vallarta is typically known as a family-centric destination, but the luxury boutique hotel Casa Velas Puerto Vallarta eschews that notion. For starters, it is an adults-only property, an enticing destination to book when it’s time to get away.
Ideal for honeymoons, weddings, anniversary celebrations or getaways with good friends, this hacienda-style hotel is located 15 minutes from Puerto Vallarta’s airport. It is situated inside Marina Vallarta’s golf course and adjacent to a private beach club.
The lovely Spa Casa Velas and the fine dining at Emiliano restaurant place this all-inclusive resort on another level. Visual pleasures are aplenty, too. Lush botanical gardens, koi ponds, swaying palm trees and a glistening pool with cabanas serve as a dynamic playground for the peacocks that frolic throughout the property.
Those who travel to Mexico frequently are accustomed to accommodations with ample space, but Casa Velas goes above and beyond with Master Suites starting at almost 500 square feet and a Presidential Suite that is 5,500 square feet. There are 80 suites total and many have their own outdoor plunge pools and Jacuzzis.
A traditional Mexican aesthetic is adhered to throughout the rooms, which have a color palette of gold, white and burnt orange and are punctuated with pieces by Mexican sculptor Sergio Bustamante. Standout, all-inclusive amenities include L'Occitane products, the mini bar and snacks replenished daily, a beach bag for in-house use, and a pillow menu so you can get just the right amount of fluff.
Most of the culinary action centers on the à la carte restaurant Emiliano, which serves Mexican dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinner either inside or on its patio.
For lunch, the Yucatan shredded pork enchiladas with a hint of sweet pineapple encapsulates the vibe of most days here at the hacienda. For dinner, stay coastal with seafood options such as Baja mussels soaked in shallot, chipotle cream and sparkling wine.
Also on the dining front, the private Ocean Club is a tranquil beachside option. With a swimming pool, cabanas and lounge areas, this retreat serves Asian cuisine and cocktails such as martinis, daiquiris and margaritas. This scene is begging for a romantic moment — in addition to the food, the club’s big feature is its vantage point of snap-worthy sunsets.
And if you seek a new flavor after a few days, Casa Velas guests also have dining privileges at nearby sister resort Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit, which has five onsite restaurants.
The bountiful botanical gardens surrounding the Puerto Vallarta hotel not only power many of the property’s culinary pursuits, but their essence can be found in some of the treatments at Spa Casa Velas, too. The stunning lagoon-like pool is where you will find the aptly named swim-up Aqua Bar, just the place to while away an afternoon.
Specialty pop-up events happen often thanks to executive chef Eliseo Ibarra. These affairs include tequila tastings, wine and cheese tastings, Cuban cigar rollers, margarita samplings, martini tastings and casino night. And if you’re venturing out, take advantage of the resort’s handbag bar, which will loan you a designer handbag for no charge.
