Reno might be Nevada’s second city, after world-famous Las Vegas, but that doesn’t limit Atlantis Casino Resort Spa. The property takes its cues from the standards set by the best casinos in Sin City and by resorts everywhere else. Atlantis truly is a casino and a resort. Both aspects are taken seriously.
Gaming, naturally, is plentiful: slots and slot tournaments, table games, keno, a poker room, a new race and sports book, and high-limit areas stocked with nibbles and fine wines. But there’s also more than 50,000 square feet of flexible meeting space distinguished by stone, marble, dark woods and the latest electronics. The high-tech Executive Boardroom includes a butler’s pantry.
In the past decade, food and drink have become signature aspects of the Nevada casino experience, and Atlantis offers 10 eating and drinking establishments. One night, bite into a lobster club sandwich on brioche in Bistro Napa; the next, sip a Hemingway daiquiri before enjoying steak Diane prepared tableside in the Atlantis Steakhouse. In between, there’s time for knishes and a pastrami sandwich behemoth in Manhattan Deli.
It also would be easy simply to while away the day at the 30,000-square-foot Spa Atlantis or sit by one of the pools and order ginger spritzers, vegetable wraps or garlic chicken pizza.
Service and upkeep are particular strengths of Atlantis. Staff members always seem to be dusting, arranging, polishing and making sure the bathrooms are immaculate. And that’s not just the responsibility of housekeeping — Atlantis executives are instructed to pick up stray materials when they see them on the floor. One recent visit, a guest left his iPhone in the men’s restroom. A security guard discreetly canvassed the meeting occurring across the promenade to see if any of the attendees had picked up the phone. One had — and the phone was returned to its owner.
