The Spa at Sea Island

A Southern spa temple
VERIFIED LUXURY
The Spa at Sea Island focuses on customization, with 23 treatment rooms dedicated to an extensive menu of offerings. Spa guides design an experience for guests that may include anything from nutritional consultations to body work, baths and skincare treatments. The spa's Pursuit of Happiness service, for example, offers complete contentment through a pressure-point-focused facial massage, a total body exfoliation and a relaxing scalp treatment.

Perhaps the best interior design feature at this luxury spa is its sunny garden atrium, a 2.5-story outdoors-like oasis littered with trees — including a tall embalmed olive tree — plants and filled with the sound of running “creek” water. Along the bubbling brook, step onto the floor made of large, smooth stones, where you can sink into a cushy beige armchair and ottoman to squeeze some reading in while waiting for your therapist.

Our Inspector's Highlights
  • Light refreshments are available in the relaxation rooms, should you need a little energy boost or calming treat to mellow out before your treatments. Choose from a number of teas, house-made energy bars, fruit, bottled water and fruit-infused water.
  • Our favorite spot is the two-story Junior Olympic-sized indoor pool, from which you’ll get sweeping views of the outdoor gardens through towering floor-to-ceiling windows.
  • Maintaining your new look and feel will be a breeze. The convenient retail shop has all of the products used during your massage, facial or scrub available to take home.
  • The fitness center is just as luxurious as the spa itself. Choose from a number of exciting workout options such as yoga and Pilates classes, squash courts, water aerobics and weight training.
  • Who says grown-ups get to have all the fun? A dedicated menu of spa treatments (the "Make a Face" children's facial) and salon services (a Sparkle Manicure and MiniMe shampoo and style) ensure even the tiniest travelers can feel pampered.
Things to Know
  • Arrive 45 minutes before your treatment to unwind in the atrium, dip in the pool or walk the labyrinth.
  • Because of the spa’s popularity, we highly recommend booking your treatments at least two weeks in advance to ensure you’ll have the ultimate spa experience.
  • While it might be difficult to pry your hands from that trusty iPhone for a day (or even a couple of hours), it’s required that you to adhere to the strict “no cell phone policy” during your visit.
  • Since the coastal spa wants to maintain a peaceful, relaxing atmosphere, guests under 18 are not permitted to utilize the locker rooms without parental supervision.
  • While children are welcome to enjoy pint-sized treatments, a parent must be present during massages and facials. Keep this in mind before selecting your own sumptuous service — you don't want to end up double-booked.
The Treatments
  • Beyond the actual massage itself, of course, the best thing about the Southern Comfort Massage is that you’ll work with your therapist to customize the exact technique you want. Simply tell him your preferences and problem areas and let him take care of the rest.
  • In keeping with the customization theme, the Sea Island Save Face Facial is among the most popular treatments at the island spa. Aside from treating problem areas and leaving your face glowing, you’ll be treated to a relaxing facial massage.
  • You’ll drift off into full relaxation mode during the 120-minute A Little of Everything retreat, which combines the best of the spa (body polish, massage and tub soak) into one luxurious treatment.
  • All the Right Moves defines the perfect massage. This blissful service offers a unique combination of Thai and Swedish techniques that you'll only find at Sea Island. This treatment melts tension by using Thai rhythmic stretching practices.
  • A far cry from your traditional stone massage, the Rock Your Body stone massage combines the techniques of Swedish massage with warm stones and your choice of essential oil.
The Facilities
  • You’ll enjoy a number of excellent and tranquil wet areas throughout the 65,000-square-foot space of the Mediterranean-inspired spa.
  • Before or after your treatment, take a dip in the heated indoor pool or go for a walk in the labyrinth.
  • An outdoor mineral salt bath is hidden in a corner of the men's and women's locker rooms near an ivy-covered wall.
  • Kick back in the sauna or steam room in the Sea Island spa’s spacious locker room.
  • There’s also a giant waterfall that splashes down into the glitzy spa’s beautiful white-pillared water atrium — and if you’d like, you can sit right underneath it.
