Four Seasons Hotel Alexandria at San Stefano

A seafront Alexandrian retreat
VERIFIED LUXURY

Based within one of the city’s most modern architectural landmarks, Four Seasons Hotel Alexandria at San Stefano is an icon in its own right. Occupying the former site of the popular San Stefano Hotel & Casino, the local favorite offers a delightful home away from home for residents and a relaxing holiday retreat for visitors. Celebrities and other Egyptian personalities are regularly spotted at the property, most notably Liverpool FC forward Mo Salah.

Somewhat split in two, the luxury resort features both an urban hotel, located in the main building, and seafront suites, added in 2019 and placed across the corniche right on the beach.

The property’s bright and fresh color palette of soft pinks, greens, blues and yellows, fused with classical design evokes a vintage summery feel befitting Alexandria’s year-round sunshine.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • Despite being in the middle of Egypt’s second-largest city, Four Seasons Hotel Alexandria at San Stefano provides a laidback sanctuary that feels miles away from the buzz of the metropolis.
  • The hotel is part of the San Stefano Grand Plaza complex, designed by the same architects behind Toronto’s CN Tower. It features a shopping mall that can be accessed directly from within the property.
  • Four Seasons Hotel Alexandria’s contemporary European spa carries a variety of services in an intimate, candlelit setting. Indulge in a regal service like the 1,001 Nights Sensation (a 140-minute peel, bath and massage) and the Cleopatra Treatment (a milk and honey bath followed by a massage).

  • A selection of 10 dining and drinking venues ensures you won’t go to bed hungry. From classic Egyptian fare and Italian cuisine to afternoon tea, you can satisfy any craving at this luxe Alexandria hotel.

Things to Know

  • The family-friendly hotel has a supervised children’s program available at Alex the Camel Kids’ Club.
  • For breakfast, peruse a delectable buffet of continental, American and Arabian fare at the hotel’s Kala restaurant. Those staying in the beach suites can still attend the buffet or opt for the exclusive set-menu breakfast at the seafront Beach Restaurant & Lounge.
  • The beach suites are reachable via a separate entrance to the main hotel — essential if arriving in a cab with luggage. Those staying on the beach can easily reach the main building via a private underground tunnel.
  • Want to spend your vacation with sand between your toes? Then avoid the chilly winter months. Four Seasons Hotel Alexandria’s private beach is closed between November and April.

The Rooms

  • The 87 rooms in the main hotel allow you to choose how you’d like to soak up the sun. Book a Pool Terrace Room for direct access to the outdoor swimming pool, or opt for a Sea-View Room for unrivaled vistas of the Mediterranean.
  • Imagined by French interior designer Pierre-Yves Rochon, accommodations are spacious, allowing in ample natural light. Balconies are a standard feature in all rooms.
  • Each room’s grand Roman-style marble bathroom boasts a rain shower and deep-soaking bathtub stocked with L’Occitane toiletries.
  • Waterfront beach suites feature at least one bedroom and a living room, and a garden terrace with chaise lounges and a dining table. All terraces overlook the sea with the private, lifeguard-manned beach a few steps away.

The Restaurants

  • The cute and colorful Fresca Café and Gelateria is great for a quick bite or sweet treat, with a menu full of sandwiches, pizzas, meaty mains, sushi and desserts. We recommend the housemade ice creams and sorbets.
  • Savor authentic Southern Italian comfort food like rigatoni ai frutti di mare, or Mediterranean seafood pasta, at the intimate Stefano’s Restaurant.
  • Indulge in an authentic Levant fine-dining experience at Byblos, with Mediterranean mezze and Lebanese and Syrian mains taking centerstage. Dishes worth sampling include maklubah (layers of fried eggplant with a choice of lamb, beef or chicken, and finished with rice and yogurt sauce); samak tajin (roasted salmon with garlic, yogurt and tahini), and umm ali (a traditional dessert made of flaky pastry soaked in milk with nuts, raisins and coconut).
  • The hotel’s signature restaurant Kala hosts daily buffet breakfast along with a special Friday brunch. Local staples include falafel, freshly baked bread and foul, a stew made from mashed broad beans that is commonly served with cumin and olive oil
  • Open only during summer, seafront Beach Restaurant and Lounge serves up fresh catch of the day and other seafood dishes, such as salt-crusted sea bass, grilled jumbo shrimp, and mixed seafood tagine. Go for a side of sayadeya, an Alexandrian specialty of spiced rice with caramelized onions.
