Four Seasons Hotel Cairo at the First Residence

A stately stay on the Nile
VERIFIED LUXURY

Rising on the western bank of the Nile, Four Seasons Hotel Cairo at The First Residence stands tall as the luxury brand’s first foray into Egypt. Though the property may have been built nearly 20 years ago, it maintains a timeless appeal with an array of international dining options, a sublime spa and enchanting river views from nearly every angle.

The stately stay doesn’t forget to pay homage to its roots. Interiors are a nod to Egypt’s Napoleonic history with dark wood furniture, period-specific paintings and gilded accents. Rooms follow suit with sumptuous fabrics and plush furnishings.

But the pièce de résistance might just be the river-facing pool — a picture-perfect oasis that combines contemporary taste (poolside service, chic white loungers) with a historic touch (Venetian-inspired mosaics, intricate ironwork).

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • The Cairo hotel recently launched First Nile Boat, a floating nightlife destination you won’t want to miss. This sleek mega-yacht boasts two chic restaurants and a nightclub, Nairu Lounge.
  • An afternoon of indulgence in the classically styled Tea Lounge is a must. Sip on fresh brews while nibbling on handmade macaroons and Valrhona chocolates accompanied by enchanting tunes played by the resident pianist.
  • Looking for a little alone time? Book a tandem treatment in the spa’s candle-lit couple’s suite and luxuriate afterward in your private sauna and whirlpool overlooking the Nile.
  • Courtesy of French executive pastry chef Benoit Loncle, La Gourmandise’s freshly baked treats and mouthwatering desserts are a definite must-try. Order the finely crafted, multi-layered millefeuille pastry.
  • The hotel complex houses The First Mall, where you can enjoy shopping at more than 60 high-end boutiques like Rolex and Bulgari. The mall also hosts an outpost of Al Sagheer Salon (one of Egypt’s top hair salons), where ladies can grab a last-minute blowout.

Things to Know

  • Skip the lines with a private tour of Cairo’s popular Egyptian Museum led by renowned Egyptologist Zahi Hawass. Simply ask the concierge to arrange this exclusive guided excursion.
  • Download the Four Seasons app to order room service, make dinner reservations or book spa treatments with the touch of a button.
  • If you need to exchange currency, the First Mall offers outposts of Qatar National Bank and Arab African International Bank.
  • Fitness enthusiasts can work up a sweat in the luxury hotel’s well-equipped, 24-hour gym overlooking the Nile. There’s also a smaller female-only gym that affords more privacy for the ladies.

The Rooms

  • The 262 rooms are among the largest in Cairo, starting at 452 square feet. All are richly appointed with marble bathrooms and gold, lilac and green fabrics.
  • The fifth floor houses the Deluxe Premium Suites. Starting at 1,076 square feet, these spacious accommodations are great for both families and guests planning to stay for long periods.
  • While Nile-view rooms are the most coveted, the rest of the accommodations still provide stunning sights, including the nearby botanical gardens and the property’s sparkling pool. Ask for a room on a higher floor to possibly spot the pyramids from your balcony.

The Restaurants

  • Syrian chef Nidal El Hamoud introduces Aura’s diners to modern Shami, a flavorful blend of Lebanese and Syrian cuisines. The smell of grilled meats and freshly baked bread in a brick oven at the poolside restaurant will lure you in from a cabana.
  • For a laid-back night with friends, head to the new Char Bar, where you can dig into gourmet burgers before a game of pool or foosball. Opt for the crispy cheeseburger or the potato chip- and egg-topped char burger, paired with your favorite beer.
  • Newly opened on the First Nile Boat, pan-Asian restaurant Nairu serves Chinese, Japanese, Thai and Indian for lunch and dinner. After indulging in the venue’s bao (buns stuffed with soy-glazed lemongrass beef brisket, chili pickles and fried onions), move to Nairu Lounge on the lower floor and dance the night away as the resident DJ takes over at 11 p.m.
  • Also on the First Nile Boat, Xodo specializes in Brazilian delicacies crafted by chef Guilherme Reis. If you’re a hardcore carnivore, we’d highly recommend visiting the restaurant on Thursday and Friday nights for an authentic churrasco buffet.
