The Silo Hotel

Contemporary luxury in the Mother City
VERIFIED LUXURY

Towering above Cape Town’s Victoria and Alfred Waterfront, The Silo Hotel is an artistic escape filled with a quirky, contemporary style and breathtaking panoramic views.

Housed in the harbor’s historic grain silo, the innovatively transformed building (designed by Heatherwick Studio) does not give away much from the exterior. Industrial minimalism is juxtaposed by floor-to-ceiling, prism-shaped windows, hinting at the opulence that lies within.

Style and creativity are at the fore at The Silo. Perched above the renowned Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa, the luxury hotel continues the celebration of design. Interiors curated by hotelier Liz Biden are brilliantly stylish and colorful, each space taking you on a unique journey inspired by her travels.

Upon return from a trip up Table Mountain Aerial Cableway or a Winelands tour, retreat to the sanctity of The Silo Rooftop, where a feast of oysters and local vino provides the ideal accompaniment to incredible vistas.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • If you can divert your gaze from the incredible views, allow Granary Café executive chef Veronica Canha-Hibbert to tantalize your taste buds. Dishes here showcase only the freshest, seasonal ingredients, peppered with local Cape Town flavor.
  • Located on the fourth floor, the Silo Spa is a tranquil space dedicated to providing world-class treatments, using top international brands such as Ling and Black Pearl. Silo Spa is the only spa in Africa using Ling products.
  • One of the perks of staying at The Silo is a private tour of the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa. During these sessions, you’re occasionally afforded the chance to meet the artists themselves.
  • The Royal Tea is a popular attraction at The Silo, making an advanced 24-hour booking essential. Allow the hotel's pastry chefs to delight you with mouthwatering pastries, teatime treats and a selection of savory bites.
  • While the 28 guest suites are fabulous, The Silo Hotel's private residences may be even more impressive. Located just 15 minutes from the hotel, these accommodations present a home-away-from-home experience but with the luxuries of a hotel stay (private cinemas, heated pools) and access to all of The Silo’s amenities.

Things to Know

  • The 2,012-square-foot Penthouse, which sits on the hotel’s top floor, can only be described as palatial. Feel like royalty with panoramic looks around the city, a dedicated butler, a study and two marble bathrooms.

The Restaurants

  • In keeping with the rest of the hotel, the three dining and drinking options offer the same impressive vistas of the city, framed by the geometric, floor-to-ceiling windows.
  • Willaston Bar — the space is named after the SS Willaston, the first ship to export grain from the original silo to Europe — serves light breakfast dishes, bar snacks, small plates and a range of wine and crafted cocktails (like the hotel’s signature sip, Rose Ginvino, made with Musgrave pink gin, chenin blanc, lime, grapefruit, rose syrup and egg white.
  • For something more traditional, The Granary Café's four-course Sunday Roast hits the spot, thanks to its selection of choice meats, seasonal vegetables and tasty desserts.
