For those wanting a true Arabian adventure with more than a touch of luxury, Sharq Village & Spa may be just the ticket — and you don’t even have to leave the city limits.

Located away from the thriving central part of Doha (you can still see the skyline in the distance), this low-rise Ritz-Carlton hotel is designed to reflect a traditional Qatari village, complete with a sheikh’s palace (Royal Villa) and villas interconnected by courtyards and lush gardens.

On arrival, you’ll be served Arabic coffee and dates in the palatial lobby – featuring one of the most intricate chandeliers in Doha — before being whisked to one of the 174 rooms and suites located around the sprawling white-washed complex.

Our Inspector's Highlights

All rooms are spacious and well designed, with the smallest accommodation offering 517 square feet of opulence. Private terraces or balconies provide even more room to spread out.
Thanks to its village-inspired layout, the luxury hotel never feels busy or crowded.
The small but well-maintained private and natural (as opposed to manmade) beach is a bonus. Reserve a gazebo for some serious relaxation time during the day or even for a romantic dinner.
Sharq Village & Spa’s centerpiece is its main pool (the second is of the infinity variety with a bar) which is spectacular both day and night — be sure to stop by after sundown to see it beautifully illuminated.
In a city known for its luxurious spas, the resort’s own is a class apart — a village within a village, the 23 treatment rooms are cool and quiet havens with treatments drawing on Arabic, Thai, Swedish and Balinese traditions.

Things to Know

The resort is just over four miles from West Bay, so a hotel car or taxi is required for any sightseeing or shopping adventures.
Although the location of the new Hamad International Airport means the Doha hotel is no longer directly under a flight path, there is still some residual aircraft noise from the nearby private and helicopter terminals.
While spacious, the rooms are can be a little dark as a result of the design and heavy decoration.
It may not be obvious, but alcohol is available at the hotel. In the main restaurant, Al Liwan, you may have to ask for the cocktail menu.

The Rooms

Sharq Village & Spa’s accommodations are organized into 14 villas, each with an inner courtyard and a small exterior balcony. Some spaces also offer pool and beach views.
The rooms are distinctly Arabian with plush four-poster beds, intricately stitched rugs and brocade curtains.
For the best vistas, request accommodations near the hotel’s small private beach — the view stretches across the Doha skyline.
Small but well-equipped bathrooms offer both deep-soaking tubs and separate rain showers stocked with fragrant Asprey amenities.
The Royal Villa is among the most luxurious in the city, clocking in at more than 21,000 square feet over two levels. It has a private entrance, 602-square-foot indoor pool (with a fountain), small gym and spa treatment area as well as a full kitchen fit for a celebrity chef.

The Restaurants

Al Liwan has one of the most interesting, Arabic-centric buffet offerings in the city, complete with fresh Lebanese, Moroccan and Qatari cuisine. Select your meat and seafood and the chef will grill it up on the spot.
With a sunken seating area and view of the pool, Al Jalsa café is the place to while away the afternoon. Special mention must go to its decadent Royal Afternoon Tea with French pastries and smoked salmon finger sandwiches, among other morsels.
If you only dine at one outlet at the resort, it should be Persian restaurant Parisa. Its terrace overlooks the beach and the menu’s highlights include an unmissable spiced lamb fillet stewed in a clay pot, as well as shrimp with saffron butter and, of course, flavorful Iranian rice dishes.
If you can venture out, Parisa also has a branch in nearby Souq Waqif. It offers a similar menu and dazzling mirrored interiors that make it one of the most Instagrammed places in Doha.
The Shisha Lounge occupies its own terrace and offers a small menu of Arabic favorites (try the chicken shawarma), pastas and drinks (there is alcohol) alongside classic hookah — a wonderful place to watch the sun set over Doha.
