The Plaza Doha, LXR Hotels & Resorts

Old-school luxury in a surprising location

Just a short drive from Hamad International Airport and the sparkling lights of West Bay, and an even shorter walk to museums and the iconic Corniche, The Plaza Doha, LXR Hotels & Resorts has an ideal location for both business and leisure travelers.

The Plaza Doha does not skimp on the luxurious details. “Elegant” is the key word for this hotel, from the soaring lobby to the understated rooms and the gilded details.

The show-stopping lobby sets the scene, bookended by sweeping staircases and overseen by a cascading glass chandelier. The centerpiece is a surprising one-of-a-kind statue – the Babolex Falcon Gold by French contemporary artist Vincent Faudemer. European-inspired furnishings, marble bathrooms and high-end finishings throughout the hotel amp up the wow factor.

The hotel boasts three restaurants, including the all-day New York brunch export Sarabeth’s and a lobby lounge as popular for business meetings as it is for its menu of classic Arabic and Mediterranean dishes.

The glamorous rooftop infinity pool is complemented by a hot tub and another smaller pool. A gold tiled sauna, a hot and cold area and a fully equipped state-of-the-art gym round out the leisure offerings.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • The straight-from-a-movie rooftop with a restaurant and pool area has uninterrupted views across the newly-opened Mina Districts to the towers of West Bay and is a great location to watch Doha’s famed sunsets.
  • Rooms are spacious and can easily accommodate longer stays and families.
  • While they might be more traditional in their décor, the 290 rooms and suites are far from stuffy. Soft furnishings are nods to modern neutrals with jewel-inspired red, yellow and blue accents.
  • All rooms come with everything you might need for a comfortable stay, including as standard king beds, espresso machines and a bevy of USB charging ports.
  • The location of the Doha hotel is unbeatable — close to Hamad International Airport as well as key tourism spots like Souq Waqif and the National Museum of Qatar.

Things to Know

  • The Plaza Doha is on a busy main road. If you foresee the action being a potential issue, ask for a room not facing the street.
  • Speaking of location, the property sits adjacent to a busy residential neighborhood that can be crowded at night.
  • This hotel is dry, so no alcohol is sold on the premises.
  • There are three restaurants inside the luxury hotel, but Doha’s rich and varied eateries are within a short drive.

The Rooms

  • Rooms offer a range of views, from the hotel’s atrium to vistas across the Corniche to West Bay.
  • The smallest accommodations, the King Deluxe Room, clock in at a generous 365 square feet while the largest is the Grand Imperial Suite, at 4,972 square feet.
  • At 538 square feet, the King Grand Deluxe room is the most spacious of the non-suites and proves a great choice for small families.
  • With families in mind, the hotel offers two- and three-bedroom suites in a variety of configurations. But they all have separate living areas, and some even come with small but fully equipped kitchens.

The Restaurants

  • The heart of the hotel is the vast, light-filled Courtyard, with stunning vaulted glass ceilings. Though this space is open throughout the day, it’s very popular for its afternoon tea.
  • Sarabeth’s, on the ground floor, is known for its generous breakfasts. Well-executed morning dishes such as eggs Benedict and pancakes sit alongside lunch and dinner offerings like sandwiches, salads and burgers.
  • Qatar’s penchant for sweet treats is on full display here. The pastries and cakes at Sarabeth’s are a standout — don’t miss the cheesecake and even other more elaborate offerings.
  • The hotel’s rooftop feels like a well-kept secret. With Horizons restaurant serving light bites and refreshments, you could easily while away a few hours in the cooler months.
