Our Inspector's Highlights

  • Artisanal design elements ground the resort in its sense of place, illustrated by 19th-century landscapes painted by John Dodgson that hang in the lobby, crafted woodworking in the beams and bedframes and by locally sourced wildflower arrangements.
  • Accommodations are available in various sizes, making this an ideal retreat for small groups. The Family Room sleeps six guests, while the Lodge Suite welcomes four and features a separate living area with a cozy gas fireplace.
  • You’ll find no shortage of things to do at this Upstate New York property. Play pickleball or bocce ball on the courts, relax in the game room, swim in the indoor or all-season outdoor pool, and unwind by the outdoor firepit, which is stocked with supplies for making s'mores.
  • This hotel serves as an ideal home base for exploring the charming Village of Skaneateles. You’ll find boutique shops, restaurants, wineries and breweries, all set against the stunning backdrop of the lake, just a few minutes away.
  • Make sure to set aside time for a day at the spa. The treatments offered here are carefully designed rituals and the facilities, which include a Himalayan salt room, barrel saunas, a cold plunge and indoor and outdoor hot tubs, complete the experience.

The Restaurants

  • Fields is a culinary destination serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. The menu is guided by the seasons and is led by acclaimed chef Esperanza Guzman, who has experience in the kitchens of Chicago’s RPM Italian and New Orleans’ Otra Vez.
  • At Fields, the menu varies with the seasons, but you can typically find dishes such as smashed avocado toast topped with farm-fresh eggs for breakfast, an open-faced sandwich featuring thinly sliced grass-fed steak for lunch and halibut served with capers, greens and warm potato salad for dinner.
  • Sustainability informs the resort’s farm-to-fork ethos. Tap Root Fields, a farm that uses regenerative practices, provides fresh produce and herbs for the restaurant and cocktails, and stocks the pantry store shelves.
  • The cocktail program, managed by bar director William Elliot, is impressive. In addition to Fields, there is a lobby and pool bar where guests can enjoy expertly crafted pours. Notable offerings include the Bobby Burns, made with scotch, vermouth and botanical Benedictine liqueur, and a refreshing gimlet served on the rocks.
  • If you're in the mood for a snack, visit the delightful Fields Pantry. Beyond its carefully curated wares and sundries, it also offers fresh items sourced locally from the resort's farm partners.
