Coquillade Provence

Provence’s picture-perfect haven
VERIFIED LUXURY

Nestled on top of a hill in the middle of Luberon Regional Nature Park, Coquillade Provence boasts an incredible 360-degree view of the picturesque Provence landscape.

The 63-room hotel sits among vineyards and lavender fields in a tiny authentic hamlet dating back to the 11th century. But it’s not all about the stunning views and bucolic charm — the photogenic property also plays host to a serene spa, a professional BMC Cycling Center and three refined restaurants.

Although the beautiful surroundings invite you to discover this part of the South of France, Coquillade’s array of activities will keep you well occupied. While away a few hours at the spa, enjoy a tasting of the estate's own Aureto wine or get your heart pumping with a cycling tour to Mont Ventoux. No matter how you spend your days, be sure to end on a flavorful note with Provençal cuisine back at the picture-perfect hotel.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • Tall cypress trees along Coquillade's impressive driveway provide a grand welcome, while Mediterranean lavender and white roses perfume the air as you walk past.
  • This Provence hotel doesn’t have a bad angle. Every corner of Coquillade offers a gorgeous vista over vineyards and you can soak up the golden hues of both sunrise and sunset from the many terraces and gardens.
  • The 2,152-square-foot Cycling Center carries an impressive range of bikes from high-quality Swiss brand BMC available to rent, including electric bikes. The showroom is staffed by experts who can help you pick out a ride or take you out for a tour of the countryside.
  • Oenophiles are in the right place — the village makes its own wine. The staff will happily show you the Aureto wine cellar, guide you through the vines and arrange a tasting.
  • The Spa & Wellness Center is spread across 16,145 square feet and includes a hammam, an ice fountain, a tea room, 12 treatment cabins and an indoor pool. Don’t miss a dip in the vineyard-facing whirlpool.

Things to Know

  • There’s a legend that Cistercian monks originally founded a hamlet on the hotel site in the 11th century. Whatever its origins, the medieval settlement sparked inspiration for the new part of Coquillade — the two blend well.
  • Take a dip in one of the two heated outdoor swimming pools. The spa also has an indoor pool for those rare occasions when the weather isn’t agreeable.
  • Besides cycling, you also can work out in the well-equipped gym, attend a collective yoga class in the soothing fitness studio, play a game of tennis or even pétanque (a Provençal version of bocce ball).
  • The luxury hotel has a helipad and can arrange for a helicopter to bring you to Nice or St. Tropez for a day trip.
  • Coquillade's Very Important Dog program outfit pets with a bed, water bowl and welcome treat. Dog sitting, walking and grooming also are available.

The Rooms

  • Each room and suite in the boutique hotel has its own flair, but all feature the same palette of rustic colors mixed with contemporary elements in a Provençal style.
  • Most accommodations benefit from a private outdoor space, ranging from simple balconies to gardens with a swimming pool or Jacuzzi.
  • You’ll feel right at home in the spacious Family Suites. The two-bedroom accommodations come with an airy living area that calls for movie nights, but the terrace is the real showstopper.
  • For the ultimate escape, check into the Luxury Deluxe Pool Suite. Inside, you’ll find a hammam cabin for two and a chic soaking tub, though the 8,600-square-foot garden, heated pool and outdoor Jacuzzi make for a regal retreat.

The Restaurants

  • Fine-dining restaurant Avelan serves traditional and innovative French gastronomy in an appealing, contemporary space. Under the remarkable locally crafted chandeliers, seasonal tasting menus celebrate the land and sea with top local ingredients.
  • Cipressa brings the flavors of Italy to Provence, including antipasti and wood-fired pizzas. Be sure to snag a seat on the pool-facing terrace for the best views.
  • The more traditional Les Vignes has a modern interior with playful lighting. Its terraced Le Jardin Dans Les Vignes (The Garden in the Vines) gives you a postcard-worthy photo op.
  • Besides working with local growers and farmers, Coquillade grows its own produce in its vegetable garden and orchard.
