The Langham, Jakarta

English elegance meets Indonesian luxury

Like a palace floating in the sky, The Langham, Jakarta brings the brand’s signature European elegance to the city skyline. Providing a haven away from the bustle of Indonesia’s capital, the 65-story retreat dazzles with its lavish design details, contemporary international flair and jaw-dropping views from almost every vantage point. (Also look for quirky Langham touches throughout the luxury hotel, including a pink vintage taxi parked outside the entrance, a giant pink teddy bear and a phone booth, also sporting the brand’s signature color.)

More is more at The Langham, where marble is the building material of choice and double-height (or more) ceilings are de rigueur. Where many city-center hotels are lucky to boast a single indoor pool, the Jakarta retreat features indoor and outdoor options, both complete with skyline vistas. You also have many culinary options — this luxury hotel offers five eateries serving up everything from afternoon tea to hand-rolled sushi. A spa that specializes in Eastern treatments will help you relax. And when you’re ready to rest your head, those signature Langham Blissful Beds will be waiting to lull you into a luxurious night’s sleep.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • Upon arrival in The Langham, Jakarta’s white-marble-clad lobby, you’ll be greeted by a striking champagne-hued chandelier. Designed by Czech luxury glassmaker Lasvit, the bespoke piece (dubbed “Haven”) depicts 3,000 butterflies suspended in flight as a nod to those found in the Indonesian rainforest. It adds a stylish sense of place to the otherwise European-style space.
  • Tom’s By Tom Aikens has a chic art deco flair with rose-hued banquettes, dark navy walls and a bronze spiral staircase leading up to the moody bar. Highlights here are British specialties (like luscious braised lamb shank) and Mediterranean delights (including sourdough pizzas) alongside Jakarta views through towering double-height windows.
  • Enjoy some sky-high relaxation in the luxury hotel’s 63rd-floor hot tub and heated indoor pool — the highest in Jakarta. If you prefer to swim laps in the Indonesian sunshine, an outdoor pool on the sixth floor offers a spectacular spot for a dip.
  • The Langham, Jakarta’s Chuan Spa provides an Eastern-focused take on personalized relaxation. A quick survey upon arrival reveals which of the classical five elements of Chinese medicine most align with your body’s needs and informs your therapist of which essential oils are needed to help you reach equilibrium in your treatment.
  • Accommodations are stylish and elegant with herringbone-patterned floors, marble accents and a contemporary take on classical plaster molding. Ultra-luxe bathrooms boast floor-to-ceiling marble with bronze trim, double vanities, Toto toilets and deep soaking tubs that are great for luxuriating in after a long day.

The Restaurants and Bars

  • For Cantonese cuisine, head for the Jakarta hotel’s T’ang Court, where display cases of porcelain wares match the Chinese-calligraphy-inspired accent rug and dishes, like caviar-topped steamed fresh crab claw served on egg custard, elevate the experience to indulgent new heights.
  • World-renowned chef Masaharu Morimoto brings contemporary Japanese cuisine to Jakarta at his eponymous restaurant. Dine on expertly rolled sushi and wagyu delights while savoring the view from the 63rd-floor eatery.
  • Enjoy a classic afternoon tea by day and a glass of pre-dinner champagne after nightfall at Alice. The modern brasserie concept specializes in sips but also serves an all-day dining menu of French classics like coq au vin, beef tartare and steak frites for those craving a taste of Paris.
  • Zip up to the 65th-floor rooftop bar Artesian to sip cocktails like Lust (gin, orange blossom, calamansi, pomelo, ginger flower and rose tonic) outside in garden-like environs.
