Mondrian Shoreditch

Bohemian breeziness meets industrial chic
VERIFIED LUXURY

Mondrian Shoreditch London is a smart, inspired property that opened in August 2021 in a smart, inspired corner of the city. The Shoreditch neighborhood is known for its cool coffee shops and avant-garde artisans, making it the perfect complement to this hotel’s graffiti-prints-on-exposed-brick-wall aesthetic. There’s symbiosis here, and it feels natural.

Though the “Mondrian” name isn’t new to the city (a location on the South Bank shuttered in 2019), it is still a brand reintroduction to a finicky London audience. Things have to be handled with care. The property shows its good intentions, however, from the onset. The 120 rooms exude warmth and sophistication. An impressive roster of restaurants speaks the global language of deliciousness. And a rooftop pool, with awe-inspiring looks around the neighborhood, will undoubtedly be the talk of the town before long.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • Mondrian Shoreditch London takes over a footprint left by the former Curtain Hotel. The forward-thinking interior design firm Goddard Littlefair helped distinguish the new brand. Honeycomb-tiled floors, green leather armchairs and hints of burnished metal throughout the rooms and suites speak to the firm’s industrial-chic messaging.
  • Beloved Spanish chef Dani García entices with his saffron-scented paella and other elevated tapas at BiBo Shoreditch. Vibrant all-day café and cocktail bar Christina’s Shoreditch highlights U.K. producers and small businesses on its menu. Laurel’s on the Roof brings a bit of L.A.-inspired retro glam to the seventh floor via rattan chairs, hanging foliage and moody DJ sets.
  • A rare find in a London hotel, there’s an attractive rooftop pool ideal for a quick dip, a place to take in neighborhood vistas or a long session of selfie-taking.
  • With the assistance of brands like Natura Bissé and Lola’s Apothecary, Wellness at Mondrian Shoreditch provides the renewing facials and massages necessary to combat travel rigors.
  • Featuring white-brick walls and wood floors, each accommodation comes with floor-to-ceiling windows that stream in plenty of natural light, and some offer nicely sized terraces. Retreat to the bathroom to unwind in the walk-in steam shower.

Things to Know

  • In addition to the spa, the hotel has a 24-hour gym filled with the latest equipment (including Peloton bikes).
  • Should stubborn English clouds prevent your photos from being their best on the roof, take the picture session inside to the hotel’s mirror-and-bulb-filled Infinity Room. With all the reflections and color bouncing, anyone can be Herb Ritts.
  • The Curtain Club, the hotel’s members-only program, toes the line between fun and formal with privileges that include a gym, a co-working space, multiple bars and a curated calendar of events covering wellness, supper clubs and live music.
