Las Ventanas al Paraíso, A Rosewood Resort

Los Cabos' luxurious desert oasis
VERIFIED LUXURY
Las Ventanas al Paraíso, A Rosewood Resort almost appears like an oasis in the middle of a desert, if only it weren’t overlooking the sparkling Sea of Cortez. But this hotel isn’t a mirage: It will send a private car to fetch you from the airport, and at checkout, you’ll receive a Las Ventanas keepsake — a hand-blown glass heart from the tree in the lobby.

The last of Los Cabos’ luxury hotels to reopen after 2014’s Hurricane Odile, everything about Las Vetnanas feels refreshed yet reassuringly the same.

The resort was rebuilt exactly as it had stood — even the gorgeous landscaping — at the request of owner Ty Warner. (Yes, of Beanie Baby fame). During the nearly year-long closure, the resort spent time on staff training, adding new programming and amenities that upped the luxury factor even further.

Our Inspector's Highlights
  • Dotted with succulents, cacti and other native plants, the San Jose del Cabo hotel’s Mediterranean-Mexican-style buildings blend into the desert landscape, and its winding infinity pools seems to disappear into the ocean.
  • Las Ventanas teems with postcard worthy views, including infinity pools as far as the eye can see, soaring palapas and buildings with hand-troweled exterior walls in a desert-sand color.
  • For a deeper study in tequila, book the Tequila Sign class, where one of the hotel’s tequila experts guides you though a blind taste test of different blancos, reposados, anejos and mescals to create a tequila profile just for you.
  • Perhaps the most memorable aspect of Las Ventanas is the service. Every suite receives its own butler, who is on call 24 hours a day.
  • You’ll really feel like you’re on a tropical getaway at The Spa at Las Ventanas’ open-air treatment space underneath a palapa amid local desert flora and fauna.
Things to Know
  • If you opt for the Tequila Sign class, your “sign” will be recognized throughout the resort, so bartenders and chefs can create cocktails and pairings that match your unique tastes.
  • No request is too large or too small, as evidenced by the resort’s “director of romance,” who aids in creating private on-the-beach dining experiences for two, oceanfront marriage proposals or over-the-top anniversary celebrations.
  • Spa services incorporate local ingredients, such as the “moon flower” — from the pitaya plant indigenous to Baja that blooms at night — fragrant pineapple, regional honey and, of course, tequila.
The Rooms
  • The crown jewel on the azure-colored Sea of Cortez, Las Ventanas boasts 83 spacious suites and villas with upwards of three bedrooms.
  • Each accommodation offers unique local touches hand-crafted by Mexican artisans — including colorful tile mosaic headboards and hand-carved wood furniture — and unforgettable ocean views.
  • If you opt for a suite, you’ll enjoy the services of a 24-hour butler, who can arrange to have coffee waiting in the morning or bring you a late night snack.
  • You’ll also be tended to before going to sleep; the aromatherapy turndown service allows you to select a scent to burn in your in-room fireplace.
The Restaurants
  • The more upscale Restaurant specializes in traditional Mexican favorites sourced from the hotel’s diverse culinary staff, served family style and influenced by local and seasonal produce.
  • The Sea Grill serves tapas, grilled meals and more on the beach and in tables submerged in the pool.
  • A standout is the Tequila & Ceviche Bar, featuring more than 150 of Mexico’s finest tequilas and an unusual fusion of Japanese and Mexican culinary traditions. It also offers one of the most diverse ceviche menus in the region (don't miss the ceviche made with local jumbo white prawns).
  • The most recent addition to the resort's culinary offerings, Arbol provides an elegant atmosphere in which in indulge in chef Anand's elevated coastal cuisine. Local bounty is elevated with Asian influences and exotic spices to create a uniquely eclectic menu, featuring curries, sushi, sashimi, wagyu beef and delightful vegetarian options.
